Is it unreasonable to be asked to produce a scheme of work?

The scheme of work being asked for is a set of resources, around 6 weeks. We have been asked to do this in our own time.

It’s not gone down well and people have contacted the union, but the response is a bit unclear. Does anyone here know?

Outline SoW/curriculum map seems like a TLR thing to me. In some schools, that's all you'd get as a classroom teacher, and so the rest of the planning would be down to you. Obviously a more detailed SoW with resources is sensible pooling of the labour. Best is when that's done in gained time when year 11 go. Taking a section each could be seen as just "your share" - much the same way as two teachers teaching the same year group in primary may split the planning between them. HoD can lead the way by doing the units needed soonest. Another option is to run with just the outline SoW, but ask everyone to put the resources they use into a shared file, so that there's some shared resources - and perhaps use gained time at the end of the year to put together a more coherent detailed SoW.

I find this bizarre. I'm a secondary teacher and I write schemes of work all the time. Surely it's a fundamental part of the job?

Always divvied up SoW between us. Secondary.

I'm secondary. I don't think it's unreasonable if divided up fairly. I've written 6 SOW last academic year. But SOME time was given over eg curriculum development time. Not enough. But some. But we all had a relatively equal share. I'm 0.6 so didn't actually think my allocation was THAT fair but that's a while other story

In my current department when we've have a whole programme of study to rewrite then we've all been expected to to chip in. The same with any bits that need updating /rewriting. In my previous department where I held tlr I wrote the entire KS3 PoS and all the SoW.
