Hi- just doing my booking and come to a bit of an inspiration halt. Year 7 - 45mins or so to do quick chemical v physical reaction at start of a topic that has reactions of metals and acids and alkalis in it. Literally just need chemical reactions = new stuff made.
Split class and I’ve got pH etc and other teacher has reaction of metals . This means my usual go to stuff for this bit like burning Mg or popping Hydrogen from acid/ Mg I don’t want to do in case she is using them.
My list of options so far
melting wax then pouring into cold water (them)
2 boiling tubes in beaker of boiling water one chocolate one egg (demo)
making sparklers with Fe filings (them) - but again might be straying into metals
screaming jelly baby or whoosh bottle (demo)
turning all the lights off and letting them set fire to something like a splint
nothing really grabbing me. I was thinking of making the cabbage indicator and then using it might be quite neat way of weaving both in, but then if I end up short of time would it keep in the fridge for a week or be manky??
Basically I’m tired and wittering- anyone got some ideas to throw at me?
