Hi all,

I am an ECT still looking for my first post. I have an interview. Part of it says I need to give a 5 minute presentation which:

describes my curriculum strengthsand how these would be used in the school.

What do you think this means?

My strengths as in maths (my degree subject)

Or my strengths as in pre- learning, retrieval practice, questioning etc

Or something else?

Both, talk about being a maths specialist and passionate about maths, and link that in with making kids passionate about maths by increasing their understanding and knowledge by using retrieval practice and qs
good luck

I would also see it as your strengths with teaching and learning. Think pedagogy wise, do you have a strong understanding of cognitive learning science for example? Do you use that to support the lessons you plan?

Is this for primary? If so, for 5 minutes, I would probably focus on your maths skills and how you could use these to help development of a maths curriculum across the school. You could weave in some mentions of pedagogical techniques too, but at primary I think a maths degree could be a real selling point for you, so I would make sure that's highlighted and in the interviewers' minds.
