Return from maternity, but might want to change jobs for sept...

So there may be an opportunity to get the dream job (part time, 3 days a week with a small token of responsibility, local). I have a lovely job at the moment, but the commute is so long.

I want to go for this other job and potentially get it in the next couple of days and hand my notice in.

I have however, asked to return to work on the 18th of July. I would still go for the week.

My resignation would be September. Are my current school entitled to say they won't pay me?? I don't think they would do this but want to know where I stand...! Can they say, don't return?

As my school is a bit strange and its adoption leave, I would be fine the pay back the enhanced pay as it was very small. But only out of the July-September payment really!

Is the new job for September? You need to resign by 31 May stating clearly in your letter that your resignation is effective from 31 August. You should be paid for 18 July - 31 August. As you have already realised you will have to repay the enhanced maternity pay but you should be paid for the period that you do return to work.

Thanks for your reply.

Its a very quick turn around and I'm not sure I want to do it - as I do love my current school and would feel very guilty about not returning. But ultimately - I might have to be selfish if the opportunity arises!
