Skorts! Bloody things

Dd's trust is cracking down on uniform and has insisted that girls wear skorts and no longer wear leggings. Apparently tight leggings sexualise them (but a teeny skort doesn't?)

Dd has scars on her legs from self harm and will not wear a skort without leggings. So to the psu she goes. Every bloody lesson. Despite the school knowing about the issue. Now they have said she alone out of all the girls in the class will have to get changed under supervision at school to ensure correct uniform. This is crazy, right? Surely?

I have sent part of my ppa today googling research that suggests clothing and the impact it has on girls reduces sports participation. I well remember being a chonky lass forced into gym pants and hating it. Boys commenting. Feeling fucking terrible.

Is it just her school that is victorian or are all secondaries still making girls basically wear a miniskirt to do sport?

Perhaps suggest religious discrimination, and that your beliefs don't align with the school's immodest uniform? I am only 30% joking.

Under the Equality Act (2010) they have to make alterations to policy and practice based on either diagnosed or suspected additional need. Mental health is covered under this so say it's significantly harming her mental health therefore she will be wearing leggings moving forwards.

Absolutely ridiculous and discriminatory. The should at least offer the compromise of leggings under skorts. Mentioning discrimination, mental health and enquiring about the school’s complaints policy, copying in head of year, pastoral lead and SenCo should make them snap into action fairly sharpish.

What will Muslim girls do?

What do the boys wear? Can’t she just wear the boys uniform - presumably joggers rather than leggings.

Not that any clothes sexualise someone. Other people do that and I would be having words with the school about their attitude / victim blaming the girls for what they wear.

At our school girls can wear leggings under skorts. Would that be a compromise?

(as an aside, the ‘leggings sexualise them’ would really irritate me. ‘Leggings aren’t part of the uniform’ is fine, but any reference to outfits/sexualising/distracting is wrong)

So we have the opposite; the weather being so hot on their last 3 days they are allowed to wear shorts. But not their PE skorts as they’re supposedly distracting to boys. So anyone who has no pe shorts has to wear their kilt or trousers next week on the hottest days… bonkers.
