What time do you get to work? Work and nursery juggling

Just trying to navigate sorting a nursery and getting another job. Which is of course a juggling nightmare with times nurseries are open and then getting to work.
What times do people get to work in the morning? If for example nursery opened at 8 and i could be at work for 8.10/8.15, is that too late? Children would come in at 8.40. It feels late to me as I was always one of the earlier birds at work but now I've got more to consider. Just after some thoughts for those of you in schools to gauge concensus really.
Thanks 😊

I get to school at about 8.10am, then drop off DS (his nursery is on site) and then I'm in my classroom at about 8.20/25am. We are meant to be on site from 8.30am and the kids come in from 8.45am.
Not been an issue so far. Our HOY sometimes comes running in at 8.50am after dropping off her little one. It happens...

underneathleaf · 04/05/2022 19:22

8.10 for an 8.50 start, or 8.30 start on briefing day. A colleague gets in about half past and stays later in the evenings.

I tend to get in by 7.30, but luckily DH WFH so can sort the kids out. Nearly all our teachers are in by 8, we are expected to be onsite at 8.20 at the latest.

Can't drop ch off until 8:15 at earliest, then a short drive to work. Usually in school around 8:30, someimes 8:35. Hate being so late in and would much prefer to be in by 8am but it is what it is and I am fortunate that my Head is v understanding - he is also Head of the school my children attend and sets the time Breakfast Club starts.

I am super organized before I leave school each night as have so little time in the morning, so leave all work out in places;powerpoints or other software/links open and ready to go; plans right on desk. (This really helped when I was off with Covid and we had a supply in, as it was all ready and waiting.)

I only considered nurseries (and now a childminder) with a 7.30 start for this reason. Our directed time starts at 8.15.

ValancyRedfern · 07/05/2022 14:19

I get to work at 8 and drop dd off a childminders at 7.45. Moving soon which will allow dp to do drop off then I'll aim to get in much earlier so I can leave before 6pm

Prechildren, I was always in well before 8am. Now I can’t drop my kids at breakfast club until 8 so I arrive around 8.20. It’s been fine. It’s also not had an impact on progress/promotions as SLT understand we have other commitments and don’t mind so long as the work gets done.

Kite22 · 07/05/2022 20:07

We've done different patterns over the years.
dh taking them to breakfast club and me starting at 7.10, through to not arriving until about 8.10 but putting in the time at the other end of the day.
Also using childcare that operates from 7.30 or 7.45

Meandmini3 · 07/05/2022 23:04

What time does your directed time start?

Kitkatcrunchie · 10/05/2022 10:47

Hi everyone
Thanks, it's made it feel more doable.
I don't know what the directed time would be as I am looking for another position at the moment, it would have to be something I'd need to ask individual schools.
The only nurseries starting at 7/7.30 are much further away so a big consideration as to where I can get a job and where she goes to nursery.
Thanks for all your answers.

Pre children I was always in by 7 and didn't leave till at least 6. Now I get in between 7.30 and 8am but leave ASAP. I work around it by not planning lessons with lots of photocopying or printing, or big activities that require lots of prep and setting up when I have busy days.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 12/05/2022 18:10

I pay additional for breakfast club. Drop DS at 7.45 in work by 8.10 pick him up about 5

MrsGatsby99 · 13/05/2022 05:01

Pre-children, 7.30 - 8am. Post-children, 8.15 - 8.20. It’s a bit tight but doable if everything is completely ready the day before. My SLT understand fortunately and know the work gets done. Juggling…

Magicandspiders · 28/05/2022 23:14

Get in at around 7.45/8.00. have to be in by 8.30 but it's fine. I make sure I have everything ready before I leave in the afternoon. Normally leave about 4.30 and work in evenings.

LondonQueen · 29/05/2022 01:17

We are supposed to get to work no later than 8:30, I get there for about 8 but when I want a lay in I come at 8:30.

GrammarTeacher · 29/05/2022 06:14

I chose a nursery with a 7:30 drop off to avoid feeling rushed in the mornings and to get a parking space!
