Staff meetings on day not working

I'm part time and teacher meetings have been virtual until now. From this term they will be in person and alternate between2 days if the week each week. So every 2 weeks it's on a day I dont work. Where do I stand in regards to attending? I won't be going as I will have my dc that day but head is expecting me there.

Hi @Silverbirch2 . You cannot be required to attend a staff meeting (or a parents' evening, come to that) on a day which you do not usually work. This is in the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document, but I can't remember exactly which section offhand. Your HT is trying it on. If you're not already in a union, join one now and they will tell him / her what I have said. You will get reduced union subscription rates for being part time.

Thanks thought so. I'm in a union already. I'll reply to the head teacher.

Of course you don’t go - you could have a job elsewhere on that day for a start! The cheek of the HT!!!

My head insisted I came in. I showed them the union guidance and they kept telling me that it was directed time and that it was accounted for in my pay. I pointed out that I'd have to pay for an additional days childcare and in the end they agreed to pay me supply rates for the afternoon and then I would stay on. From then on I have insisted on working on Tuesdays when parents evenings are.

I'm part -time and meetings are on a non-working day. They're still virtual at the moment but I've never attended! It's my non-working day. I just ask partner teacher to fill me in. Your head can't make you come in.
