Unvaccinated School Staff

How many of you have been affected as a work force by the rule that unvaccinated staff have to self isolate for 10 days upon close contact with a COVID19 positive person? Everytime we've had a wave of Covid go through my school community the unvaccinated staff were all rushed home. As a small SEND school we are one bubble so you can imagine the chaos! On top of everything all our teachers are non-vaccinated so it caused major distress and disruption at our school.

And now when isolation rules are supposed to end from tomorrow...I see in the small print that isolation rules remain the same for those who choose to be unvaccinated!!!!!! So you can walk around unmasked with Covid from tomorrow...but if you choose to be unvaxxed you can get 10 days off work!

I recently saw a protestor at an anti-vax rally hold up a placard saying "unvaccinated staff are covering the vaccinated"...what a load of nonsense!

All of these rules are messed up!

Why do we have to suffer as a work force to protect unvaccinated staff when they have chosen not be vaccinated? Why are schools paying staff to sit at home on their bums while vaccinated staff cover them?

It's all incredibly unfair and nonsensical!

Do not even get me started on this topic. It has been a complete farce at my school. Some teachers have been sent home on multiple occasions since December. One teacher returned to school for one day, before being sent home again 😬

Other vaccinated staff like myself are not even being informed of we have been in close contact of a positive case so that we can do daily LFTs!

It definitely looks like unvaccinated staff are getting the better deal if you ask me.

Thanks for sharing in my anguish!

Same thing happened at my school with staff having back to back isolations. One guy went off three times in succession, that's a month off!

After going through the new guidance with a fine tooth comb today we found the sentence that explicitly says that unvaccinated staff no longer need to isolate upon close contact. But it took ages to find!

I loved informing them that needed to end their 10 day holiday and return tomorrow!

I will still never understand any of the nonsense legislation around COVID19...we definitely lost this biological war, let's pray this Government doesn't see us into an actual war!

I think you have that wrong... from the gov website:

Fully vaccinated adults and those aged under 18 who are close contacts are no longer advised to test daily for seven days and the legal requirement for close contacts who are not fully vaccinated to self-isolate will be removed.

I honestly don't think is that hidden?

At my school if you aren’t vaccinated you don’t get paid for isolation stints 👍

Are you in a private school by any chance?

Nope state school, and fully in agreement with their stance

Yes we found this in the guidance but it's not clearly stated in the emails sent by the DfE. The guidance is also different for NHS, special and care settings. My school is run by an NHS trust so it's complicated...we have send all the guidance to our medical director who ultimately decides. DfE rules are less strict when compared to NHS.

I would agree to this too. Just hadn't heard of any schools actually implementing this! Do they still get paid if they are isolating because they have covid? Ie not paid when sent home just because they were a close contact?
LacasadeBernadaAlba · 26/02/2022 08:50

Why are they not teaching online? I don’t understand why anyone well and just isolating can’t beam themselves into the classroom to teach. Sure, it still needs an adult in the room but some form of teaching can still happen.

Given no one is testing this is becoming a non subject. It is just possible you have been annoyed with the people instead of being annoyed with the rule. There didn’t seem to be a lot of science behind requiring all those isolations for the non-vaccinated. It seemed punitive to me.
