Living for the holidays, then they get ruined!

I am just feeling very sorry for myself today, and don't really have anyone to talk to about it!

This term has been horrendous work life balance has been impossible, so many demands on me- lots of exam classes and mocks for all, year 13 UCAS applications, my own family commitments, childcare closures, kids parties blah blah blah blah.

I've worked myself to the point of breakdown and term isn't over yet, still got 3 days left!

The small family Christmas we had planned is cancelled as my brother now has covid and they are talking about lockdown from the 27th.

I spend all term living for the holidays and now it looks like they are goi g to be shit too! I need a break, I need something to look forward to!

Lower your Xmas expectations then nothing will be truly ruined

Meredusoleil · 18/12/2021 18:34

I know how you feel. It's just one thing after another at the moment with no let up and no end on the horizon either 😔

wingingit33 · 18/12/2021 18:43

You still have three days?? Wow we finished on Thursday and thought that was a late finish.

likeafishneedsabike · 19/12/2021 08:14

I know exactly how you feel. What a horrendous term and now the holidays are shadowed by Covid.
My strategy is to focus on what I want from the holidays. Basically I want to recover from a terrible bout of Covid and the impact of illness on my mental health.
So I am going to prioritise sleep, exercise, fresh air and good nutrition. I am also going to do a fair amount of house sorting since that will be good for my well-being.
After all that is established, I may turn my attention to KS5 planning because my stamina for working late into the evenings is really waning. Some lessons in the bank will help me with my (frankly insane) workload in the near future.
So for me it’s less a case of living for the holidays and more a case of making holidays work for me!

Ah thanks everyone! I feel a bit better today after a rest yesterday.

Our nursery/ before and after school club is closing on Monday (for good!) so I've had the stress of patchworking together suitable arrangements from January till the summer.

I've got no one to look after the kids on Tuesday as my mum was supposed to do but now she is isolating- DH has gallantly offered to take the day off from his school to look after them 😜 so thats one less thing to worry about.

My Christmas expectations are minimal @IvoryViolets ! Just lunch with immediate family, we can do it another time- after the circuit breaker?!! Last year my daughters bubble burst on the last day of term so we were all isolating then too.

We just need to make it to Wednesday....

Yep. Same here. Got my positive PCR result yesterday. Christmas is ruined. Same as last year when I was really quite ill with COVID.

It's absolutely shit OP. I live for the holidays too and as this was such a long, hard term, it feels like an extra kick in the face.

You have my every sympathy Thanks

Clarabellawilliamson · 21/12/2021 22:02

Oh no @theluckiest I'm so sorry! I hope you don't feel too rough. ThanksCake and Wine for you. It's shit

So sorry to hear things are so rubbish right now and your Christmas plans can't go ahead Xmas Sad it's rubbish!
This term has been horrendous in terms of workload!

No covid for me thankfully but I have picked up a chest infection and feel like crap Xmas Sad got antibiotics so hoping they kick in soon! Need to finish shopping - DH and I are dividing and conquering today (my mum is helping me!) To get it done. Yesterday was MILS funeral so it's been so hard Xmas Sad

Luckily I have all DSs presents - just need to wrap. SiL is doing Christmas Dinner so we don't have much food etc to buy. I am going to focus on the last few presents, giving the house a tidy and just relaxing for the next few days with DH and DS.

I hope we all have a nice Christmas despite everything!
