Staff dropping like flies. Covid and not-covid and could-be-covid

We have a large number of teachers who are isolating awaiting PCR test results, off sick genuinely ill with flu like symptoms but tested negative on PCRs or who actually have covid and are too ill to set home learning.

The head and deputy have been teaching most of the week. Teaching assistants have been redeployed to other classes to cover. 1:1 EHCP children have had support where possible but not always. Supply teachers and supply TAs in every day but often not enough available to cover.

What happens when too many teachers and support staff are ill to teach and to teach remotely? All staff have been double jabbed and we've also all had a flu jab in school

We have an emergency plan where we have worked out how many staff need to be off for us to be unable to open safely and need to close classes or the whole school. We consulted it this week…

Yes, our head must have a similar plan.

If staff are too ill to teach from home I suppose packs of home learning could be sent out, produced by the teachers who are well.

13 staff off one day last week in secondary. Was close to sending a year group home as not enough staff.

Same here. I am a faculty lead in a large secondary and have never had so many staff off in the first half term as I have this time.

No confirmed covid cases among them but really nasty flu/other viruses/sick children to look after etc.

We get cover staff in and SLT do have a plan in place for extreme cases.

When there are not enough staff the school will either close and go online or close entirely for a week or two - they call this a firebreak. Happened to my kids school 3 times since March 2020.
