Here is my story:
I am a secondary teacher who has worked since 2013 in EYFS settings and as a SEN TA for a while too.
Every school I have ever worked in immediately sees I am qualified and gives me the most difficult pupils as a 1:1. This means I have never experienced normal classroom life and am always with children who like to be outside the classroom.
I want to experience being an infant school teacher from reception up - but when I applied for a job I didn’t get it because I don’t have the experience. I can never get the experience I need as am always given challenging pupils so can never work alongside a teacher - and frankly the teachers prefer me to be outside the room.
I feel absolutely trapped - I have contacted all the teacher training facilities but not will help me as I am qualified and not a teacher of a core subject.
How can I get experience and get myself to the place I want to be? It’s endlessly frustrating.

Sounds tough. Can you talk to some agencies about supply prospects for you as a primary teacher in your area?

I thought you would be able to do a secondary to primary conversion course. Is your secondary subject one that's taught in primary?

Sadly no - it’s in the arts - I haven’t seen a conversion course anywhere - thanks for reply
