Can I do a SKE without having a PGCE or Scit place?

I know I really want to get into teaching- I'm working as a TA at the moment. The timing is not quite right and I have missed the boat for training this year. Can I do the SKE now so when I am ready to apply for training I will be all set and hopefully a more prepared candidate....

I don't think so. But you can certainly do some courses to develop subject knowledge. Look up the English and media centre ones.

@MrsHamlet
I was looking at courses, do you think it will be satisfactory to do an A'Level in English Literature?

What do you want to teach?

I'd definitely have a look at an A level in Lit if you don't have one. The EMC courses are designed for teachers, so they'd be another string to your bow.

I do have A'Levels in English Lit, Sociology and Media Studies, but I thought to do it again as a refresher?
I will have a look at the EMC courses. Thank you @MrsHamlet

Maybe think about English language instead then.
