Job share and long term sick leave

Hi
In a job share situation, if one of the two is in long term sick leave, what should happen?
Should the other person be offered the hours? Should the hours be advertised? Should the head just appoint someone they have heard of?

Is there an official way of dealing with it, or is it up to the head?

I would expect the HT to make the best judgement call they can, within the confines of what can happen.

So, they might offer the other person to cover the hours, but it is more than likely they won't want them / can't manage them.
They might appoint someone they know to be good, if they are available.
If they couldn't find anyone they might advertise - but I'm not sure on what terms, as they wouldn't know how long the person will be off for, and a lot of time can pass going through the process, even if they found anyone.
I'd have thought they would more likely go to an agency than advertise the position.

Why ?

The remaining job share person needs to be careful that they dont get lumbered with all the other person's work.

I once has a boss tell me that "Everyone knows that a half time job is 3/4 of a full time job".

No its isnt.

Thanks. My job share partners in on long term sick leave. I covered for him before the summer and made it clear to the head I was more than happy to continue. ( I am part time because jobs around here are like gold dust!)
I was told in July to plan for doing the first couple of weeks, which I have. I got a call earlier this week to say the head had appointed some teacher she knows from somewhere to cover the days.

I rather annoyed ....and I wondered if this was normal procedure.

In that case you have done more than enough. Stop preparing any cover work. Liaise and work with the new teacher as you do with your usual job share.

The HT is allowed to do this - but it is not a nice way to be treated without at least having the decency to let you know first, especially after you already did the prep for the first two weeks.
