End of year gifts

Not sure what to get. Do I get for the staff I’ve worked closely with or do I get for everyone or take cakes for all and gifts for those I’ve worked with. Not sure what gifts to get either?

You don’t get them anything. They are paid to do a job. When I was a primary teacher not long ago I used to send messages out to parents to say please don’t buy me a gift. If they really wanted to contribute something please donate to a charity instead. If you worked with teachers as some sort of support, again you don’t get them anything. However I always used to buy some sort of gift or ask if volunteers wanted a donation to charity of their choice.

If you really want to buy something, maybe a token for your mentors and something edible for the dept. We don't expect gifts but it's lovely to feel appreciated.

Haven’t you mentioned not liking your mentor, maybe don’t bother? Unless I’ve mixed you up with someone else? If I have, apologies, and buy cake for all and a card for your mentor

@CarrieBlue that’s not me no! Yeah I think something small will do. I’m not really feeling like buying Prosecco x10

A couple of boxes of biscuits for the department to share. @Zoorhik you are a charming soul, the OP is an ITT student, and in general staff are not remunerated for the extra work this involves. Even if they were a small thank you is always appreciated, even if not expected.

I'm having the same worries. Also what to get the children?

MrsHamlet · 12/06/2021 13:06

You really don't have to get anyone anything. I bought my year 13 a customised mugs with fruit tea, post it notes and chocolate. Year 11 got a Macbeth sticker :)

CarrieBlue · 12/06/2021 13:10

Nothing for the children!

If someone in particular has been mentoring you then it's nice to get a gift as a token of appreciation. I just got a couple of presents from NQT staff that I'd been putting time into.

Couple of sweets at the end of the year is the most I give kids - and even that isn't necessary. They have enough tat without me adding to it.
