Whose news to share?

I have resigned from a job that has been quite unpleasant for the past two years. I told three close colleagues and the Head before half term. Yesterday morning, another colleague congratulated me on my new post. I asked how she knew but she didn't say. I thought that the news was in the staff room arena so told more colleagues yesterday that I'm leaving. Today I have received a message from the Head telling me that three colleagues have been to see her about my departure in the last two days. This news should be shared with every staff member at the same time, apparently! Am I in the wrong for having shared my news with a few colleagues? I'm really not into drama and didn't want the big announcement in a staff meeting. I'm not sure how to respond to the Head's email.

The Head has no right to dictate how you choose to share this news.

Thank you. I don't ever recall news like this being treated so formally before! I'm the past other staff have just said they're leaving, none of this "telling everyone at the same time" business. Maybe it's the big promotion that she's trying to play down.

Congrats to you. Headteachers always feel slighted when a member of staff resigns. No matter how they smile and wish you well good luck their microaggressions are always felt in my experience.

I have also resigned and for the first time ever in my history of working in that school the headteacher is questioning (passive aggressively) me about my work/meetings.... I didn't even think she knew my name lol.

Ignore the email, smile and count down the days…
