Not me, but I know three people it has happened to in the last couple of months.

Tell me more --- :) What role did they apply for and what did they get?

Me Grin I applied for a role at a school I had been a supply at and wasn't shortlisted.

Then the head offered me a different role that they had coming up that they felt I was better suited for. I've since moved on as it was temporary but it can happen.

It happened to me! I applied for a job but was ‘second’. Then a few days later I had a phone call from HT offering me a different job as some changes had occurred in dept. I was very surprised!

I applied for a job once, and at the interview got a strong feeling that I didn't really fit into the school. Didn't get the job but wasn't wholly surprised or disappointed. Was a bit of a relief despite really needing a new job in this new location. That evening I had a phone call from a different local Head - the one who had lost a teacher as she'd been appointed to the job I didn't get. The new Head said that his School Improvement Partner had been on the interviewing panel, and he'd said that I'd be an excellent fit for his school, and would I like to come in for a chat. Got the 2nd job, and loved the school - much better fit.

Hadn’t applied but visited a school as a prospective parent and got offered a job (just temporary) as a result.

I’m still there 7 years later.

Me -came 2nd in an interview

One of the interview panel was head of a local school (within the same MAT) rang me up 2 days after the interview and asked if I'd be interested in discussing a role at her school

One applied for Y5. The HT said he didn't see her as a KS 2 teacher and rang the following week to offer her a nursery post. She turned it down - and now teaches in KS2 in another school.

The other came second for an NQT post (Y4) and was devastated, but was offered a Y1 job in the same school a week later with no application or interview. Doing well.
I know someone else who came second in an interview at School 1 but was offered a job at School 2 on the back of that. Same academy chain.

In November I applied for an EYFS job, came second and was offered a Year 2 job at their federated school. I turned it down - I really didn't want Year 2
