Volunteering in schools - who to approach?

Hi there, I hope you can help me. I trained as a primary teacher 5 years ago, but dropped out of my NQT year due to stress, and went back to my previous career. Previous to my PGCE I used to work in publishing but also ran and participated in a reading partners scheme for my employer.
I have read a lot about schemes that are being rolled out to help children who have fallen behind due to Covid, and would love to volunteer with reading or communication skills, but not sure where to start. I could contact my local schools, but have the idea that there are organisations that have been set up specifically to do this.
If your school uses one of these new schemes could you let me know who they are?
Thanks in advance :)

I would crack on and speak directly to Heads if I were you.

I asked the school secretary about volunteering and they gave me the headteacher’ email address for when I did both of my placements.

Thanks both, I thought there was a specific government-run catch-up program, but obviously I was being a little overly optimistic. I will contact the schools where I did my pgce placements. Thanks!
