C of E Primary School for LGBT teachers

Hi all. I am looking at a vacancy advertised for a KS2 position in a small C of E primary school. It looks perfect for me and I really think I could thrive there.

My question is... will the fact that I am gay automatically put the school off hiring me?

My sexuality has nothing to do with my teaching career ultimately and doesn't have any bearing on whether I'm a good teacher or not. However, for a religious school, would this put them off?

I know legally it can't, but you know there is a difference between what is said officially and the true reasons for decisions.

They would definitely know my sexuality due to the equality and diversity form as well as a presentation of my interests and hobbies, which has pictures of me and my partner. Plus... I don't want to hide it!

ALSO, does anyone have experience of working as/with LGBT teachers in faith schools? Could you share experiences? Is this position actually going to be suitable for me?

Thanks for your help :)

I work at a Cathilc girls' school and we have several lesbian and gay teachers. Our current Head is also gay. I don't think you'll experience any problems relating to your sexuality.

The only issue I'm aware of is a slightly camp male teacher getting some grief from children from a pentecostal/fundamentalist type background. I'm not aware of any of the lesbian teachers experiencing any prejudice from staff or students.

Thanks so much. That’s really encouraging. I’m not at all bothered about prejudice from pupils anyway. I just don’t want my application to be discounted.

It’s not often I feel like this about my sexuality. Hoping it’s just me overthinking :) thanks again

I can't imagine it being an issue at all. Good luck!!
