You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

@Piggywaspushed

They must suddenly be racing through vaccinations in my area. Just got my appointment booked for Tuesday! That's approximately two months earlier than I expected!
Brilliant news! Can I ask what age bracket you are?
MrsHerculePoirot · 12/03/2021 16:15

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay when did you have your first - how many weeks apart will the two be out of interest?

A friend from school caught covid four weeks post first jab and having seen that story about the care home today perhaps they are shortening gap?

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2021 16:38

I'm 49....

DrMadelineMaxwell · 12/03/2021 16:43

Am pleased for you Piggy. They still aren't doing over 50s here yet, despite advertising repeatedly in the press that the % we have vaccinated is above that over the border in England! My group 6 friend gets hers next week.

I've just been to pick up the lfd test for DD and they had a set of papers where they highlighted those that had been collected. At least 95% had been highlighted so there's a good uptake.

Meanwhile, our primary newsletter asks that parents don't mass test their asymptomatic children if parents have symptoms, as it will cause bubbles to pop. WTF? If the parents have it, I'd want to know if the kids had it too and if it causes a bubble of close contacts to pop then so bloody be it and it would help cut down the chain of transmission, surely?

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2021 16:50

It's ridiculous that we seem to gave time travelled backwards to the don't test your kids days.

Quite a few kids have had suspicious days off his week that coincide with their second LFT.

Appuskidu · 12/03/2021 16:59

@Piggywaspushed

I'm 49....
Oooh, glad to see they are getting to the under 50s!
chocolateisavegetable · 12/03/2021 17:00

Great news piggy !

RigaBalsam · 12/03/2021 17:05

Good news Piggy

GuyFawkesDay · 12/03/2021 17:09

Great news @Piggywaspushed

Hope you get better very soon @StanfordPines and it's a mild dose.

Anyone else feel absolutely knackered tonight? I am so tired it's ridiculous, the kids must be exhausted too. Such an intense week.

MrsHamlet · 12/03/2021 17:10

I'm ready for a nap. I might just get one in before my union meeting.
Head told me today I won't be any good at the job I've applied for. I'm not sure what this is meant to achieve.

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2021 17:11

How rude MrsH!!

MrsHamlet · 12/03/2021 17:14

I went away and cried. It's basically the job I do now, but on SLT. So he's saying I'm no good at my actual job.

HarrietDVane · 12/03/2021 17:19

Wtf, MrsH?! What a rude, unpleasant thing to say Angry

Good news Piggy! They are moving quickly in your area - still no news in our area for under 65s.

I think it’ll be just under 8 weeks. We can only use the Pfizer vaccines we receive now for second doses, so it’s sort of working in the same way as the first doses did. Anything spare at the end of the day gets put into an arm that had a vaccine at least 3 weeks ago. They had a bunch of free appointments for anyone at least 21days post first jab to book on a 1st come first served basis.

Obviously this crashed the hospital system when they sent that e-mail out this morning.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 12/03/2021 17:27

Yay piggy.

MrsH what an arse. Any chance you can leave?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/03/2021 17:30

Urgh. Why do people do that MrsH? What a dick.

MsAwesomeDragon · 12/03/2021 17:34

Yay piggy that's fab!! Dh is 52 so I'm hoping they'll get to him soon. They've opened up a whole load of extra vaccine places here. None of them are particularly big but they are more local than people had been able to book. So Boots in the city centre is now available to book on the booking system. I don't think they're down to the over 50s yet though, I think it's still over 55. I go for mine tomorrow. I'm group 6, so the GP is still ploughing through us vulnerables.

MsAwesomeDragon · 12/03/2021 17:38

MrsH is the job you've applied for at your own school? Or somewhere else? I'm attempting to put some sort of positive spin on this, if it's somewhere else might he not want to lose you? And just been a monumental arse in the way he's expressing that? Obviously if it's at your own school then there's no possibility of him being anything other than a giant, twatbag!!! Just say the word of you'd like him to meet an unfortunate accident, I'm sure we can sort that out between us.

MrsHamlet · 12/03/2021 17:40

I'm really torn. I love my job - but it's an SLT position on a TLR salary and timetable. No chance of that changing.
I love the school and the kids. Most of the staff are great... but I know I'm not valued by the dept I'm in and that will only get worse.
I'm ups3 and neither young nor foxy.
I don't want to leave exactly but the dept thing really means I have to. HT knows why. But why make me feel like shit?

MrsHamlet · 12/03/2021 17:41

It's an SLT post elsewhere. I don't think I'll make the shortlist but now I'm wondering why I'm bothering at all.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 12/03/2021 17:42

Some HTs are dicks, they think selfishly. They want to keep you, so knocking your confidence is their tactic.

Apply and go get the bloody job!!!

MsAwesomeDragon · 12/03/2021 17:44

Have some faith in yourself!! You said you pretty much do this job already, so you can definitely do it. I really hope the other school can see how good you are and give you the position you deserve. Your head is trying to make you feel shit about yourself so you give up and stay where you are, doing an SLT job on a TLR timetable. Why would he want you to leave, when he's getting such a good deal out of you?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/03/2021 17:46

Perhaps he’s just trying to make himself feel better for not having sorted out the problems that are making you need to leave.

CarrieBlue · 12/03/2021 17:51

It’s been my first day off with no one else at home today since before Christmas - I’ve cleaned and tidied all day and I feel so much less stressed just by the house looking so much better (as long as I don’t put my head round the kids’ doors!). All of us working from home meant there was always chaos, much worse than last year when I could escape into the garden, I’m just marvelling at the order around me!

JanFebAnyMonth · 12/03/2021 18:30

DrMad there was an article on Beeb website today about the huge variations between Welsh health authorities in terms of who they've vaccinated this far, have a look. With maps etc.

That request from your primary is appalling!!!
