You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

@noblegiraffe

I've just looked at the instructions my school has sent and it has a big 'This booklet is obsolete (blue booklet with guy in his kitchen on front) and should be replaced by this new booklet (plain blue)'.

The test I got from the pick-up site for primary school households has the obsolete booklet in it, so wonder what they've changed.

I wondered that.

Good luck all!

Monkeytennis97 · 08/03/2021 06:34

Good luck everyone! No face to face for me until Wednesday and for DH until Thursday. Feeling grateful for that.

Loveagoodbuffet · 08/03/2021 06:47

Hope everything goes as smoothly as it can today - good luck everyone.

No testing for me (primary) but I'll be navigating those damned lids on the gravy and custard jugs again that fall off with the slight wrong movement and cover a table rather than the dinner 😬👍🏻

MrsHamlet · 08/03/2021 06:49

I've been awake since 3.40. Sigh. No kids face to face for me today, so remote teaching from school on the unreliable internet connection.

DreamingofBrie · 08/03/2021 06:52

Hope it goes well, everyone. I'm f2f teaching for 4 periods today. Hoping it goes smoothly for all of us.

Loveagoodbuffet · 08/03/2021 07:02

@MrsHamlet I hope you manage to get some down time this evening and better sleep.

RigaBalsam · 08/03/2021 07:06

Good luck all.

MsAwesomeDragon · 08/03/2021 07:14

Good luck everyone. I'm in school for training in how to do the testing (even though I'm not actually involved in the testing as I'm CV and was told not to volunteer). Remote learning already set for all classes. Thermals are on, because my classroom is cold at the best of times, so sitting in there all day with no kids to warm it up is going to be freezing!!!

Dd is up and moping around because she really, really doesn't want to go back.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 08/03/2021 07:17

Brace, brace, brace!

Good luck everyone!

Medra · 08/03/2021 07:22

Good Luck everyone. Our second day of being in for no reason other than SLT clearly think we can’t be trusted to work from home.

I wish this wasn't so... but it is. Why are they so untrusting?

BigBobBoots · 08/03/2021 07:28

Good luck everyone!
I'm quite looking forward to seeing my class today, and actually f2f teaching them all. But knot in stomach nevertheless .

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 08/03/2021 07:29

so wonder what they've changed

Several people in my school have been through them in detail, and can't see a difference.

I'm at school and the car park isn't even unlocked.

StaffRepFeistyClub · 08/03/2021 07:33

Masks check
Hand gel check
Properly dressed- just
Make up - okay
Hair - it will do
Mute button - lost it

Good luck everyone

Ah right, so my instructions have the guy in the kitchen in the cover (dated Nov 2020 - the booklet not the guy. Altho he looks quite nice ....)

SoFranCisco · 08/03/2021 07:35

Had forgotten the boredom of making packed lunches and chivvying my own kids to be ready to leave the house - I shall rather miss the peaceful starts to the day when it was only me going to school!

noblegiraffe · 08/03/2021 07:37

Good luck all. Chris knows you can do it.

Me too, SoFran! And there is only DS to chivvy along. He took a lot of chivvying this morning 🙄. 5 mins late is all it takes for me to not be able to park at work after dropping him off ( no school bus for 6th formers, no way is he getting 2 public buses after successfully shielding for nearly a year!).
I am ready half an hour early though so..... 👍

motherrunner · 08/03/2021 07:39

Fun and games already started at my kids’ primary. Just dropped them off to breakfast club. DD went to walk into the juniors but the TA told her to go in with DS (infant). The TA who supervises junior club is positive. Means all kids from reception to Yr 6 who use wraparound are all in the same room.

JanFebAnyMonth · 08/03/2021 07:54

Mixing of bubbles is "allowed" for wraparound....

JanFebAnyMonth · 08/03/2021 07:54

But yeah...

Piggywaspushed · 08/03/2021 08:14

I have to say, the atmosphere in our house this morning was so much more positive than it has been, despite both DC having claimed they didn’t want to go back, and DS not returning until Thurs anyway. He chose to get up with us this morning though, I was amazed!

Apparently Nick Gibbs confirmed in interview this morning that if a student gets a pos LFT, then a negative PCR, they still have to isolate.

So that's going to have people (-is included!) questioning:

• accuracy/point of LFTs
• accuracy/point of PCRs
• "the science"
• Schools
• DfE's judgement and policy.

What with that and the fact that most parents won't bother testing themselves or testing their kids after the first week or two, I can see it may not be mask wearing which will be dropped as a policy at Easter. Or maybe both, just to leave schools in the same position they were in in December.
