Sending greetings to all you teachers/school staff out there! Come on then, what's the announcement going to be tomorrow? Let's take bets.

I'm a secondary teacher. I'm looking in my crystal ball and predicting:

  1. Some kind of fudging about on summer schools (again). The Mail have been reporting this, apparently all disadvantaged students will get a premium. But will the government have actually thought this through? In terms of who is going to staff it...hmmmmm....

  2. I predict a phased return. Not sure how though. I suspect my primary school colleagues will be thrown under the bus first, as now there are reports (yet again) that covid doesn't spread through the little ones (not my experience in my young daughter's school but hey ho!). The "Science" surrounding the spread in schools seems to change depending on the message...Strange that!

  3. I predict secondary schools might have year 11 back. Even though they have completely switched off. But also possible that secondary are off another week or so. With more fudging about with all the testing of students we are meant to be doing. We have 900 students and currently 3 testers....

  4. Lots of gnashing of teeth from people about is lazy arse teachers who just want some time off.

Sadly I don't predict a well thought out plan, with clear links to science. I hope I'm wrong.
Anyone else fancy just throwing out there what they think?

School staff only need apply to this thread - I avoid the covid board because I can't be arsed to read the teacher bashing.

Primary back all at once. Carnage in 2-3 weeks time, but never mind, teachers and kids can just stay inside through the Easter holidays as a natural fire break.

Secondary I don't really know about. I vaguely know which years are important, but that's about it.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 21/02/2021 14:54

Oh and the main health board currently has a 'Starmer backs unions' thread just above 'Starmer moves away from unions' thread. Haha.

dapsnotplimsolls · 21/02/2021 15:18

I'm hoping for a phased return but I'm worried he'll say all kids back on the 8th. Bubbles will be closed after a week or two.

Marinatingchicken · 21/02/2021 15:25

Yes I think it will be all primary kids back at once too. None of my colleagues can really take a guess at secondary though. We just have no idea really but I imagine that if they want us all back then they will quietly drop the idea of testing all students every week because it's impossible. They've already dropped that we have to test the keyworker kids and it's just adults now!

I'm quite happy to have Y11 and Y13 back on the 8th but that's it.

Cantaloupeisland · 21/02/2021 15:41

All back but allowing secondaries to stagger year groups in order to do lf tests I reckon.

This.100% this.

With a good dose of blathering on about money for catch up programmes/tutoring and laptops.

And "schools are safe."

I do think there'll be some kind of staggering for secondary though.

dipdips · 21/02/2021 16:14

I feel like all primary will be back and Secondary staggered (but probably not enough.) Thank goodness for that break at Easter soon after to draw breath and take stock.

MrsHamlet · 21/02/2021 17:22

I don't want 11 and 13 back until we know what the plan is. Right now, their "bubbles" are safe. The minute they come in, we're back to watching for the dreaded email.

dapsnotplimsolls · 21/02/2021 17:34

I thought the plan was being published later this week?

MrsHamlet · 21/02/2021 18:00

It might well be but until we know what the timescales are, I'm happier with them at home!!
The best laid plans and all that!

StaffRepFeistyClub · 21/02/2021 18:17

Bojo will say we are all back at the same time - lots of LFT in secondary

He is hoping we will all be jabbed in a couple of months and it will be okay.

It will be chaos. Not sure that Easter will be a natural fire break because once all schools are back then we are all mingling anyway. You only have to look at some of the parks now - full of kids doing stuff with mums close-ish to each other.

StaffRepFeistyClub · 21/02/2021 18:22

Your point 4 goes without staying. I am staying away from the covid board as it will go into meltdown with either us being

(a) lazy skivers getting their own way and have another couple of weeks off because of their unions or
(b) lazy skivers get back to work asap as I pay your wages and you have already had a year-long holiday and I have been doing your job for you

Marinatingchicken · 21/02/2021 18:45

Well I will await with baited breathe what the news is tomorrow and then come back to discuss Wine

My bet is for the Big Bang. They don't give a shit. It's a Billy Big Bollocks , Willy Waving display of bravado risk taking.

WhenSheWasBad · 21/02/2021 19:36

Primary back same as September.

Secondary back same as September once we’ve buggered about trying to test everyone for a week. Maybe masks in secondary in classrooms?

MrsHamlet · 21/02/2021 19:51

Aren't little boys supposed to grow out of waving their willies around?

dapsnotplimsolls · 21/02/2021 20:27

Not in the Houses of Parliament.

chocolateisavegetable · 21/02/2021 21:58

I predict lots of "schools are safe" followed by a load of teacher bashing on MN (more than normal I mean)

Marinatingchicken · 22/02/2021 16:08

Well the BBC is reporting all students back at the same time. I'm pretty stunned by this. I mean, for the sake of three weeks? They couldn't just be "on the safe side" for three weeks? I'm not someone who relishes being at home but the idea of him risking another lockdown for the sake of three weeks...Jesus.

Well, I'm going to visit my family then before we all go back. Guilt free.

Lancrelady80 · 22/02/2021 16:26

I'm so surprised there is nothing to mitigate secondary schools at least. (Lfts do NOT count!) They were always going to throw primary schools back, although could and maybe should have staggered year group returns, but secondary schools really should have been given some more protections on returning.
