Are teacher trainees allowed to be identified as such?

So I was observing an online lesson today as part of my school direct training. And all of a sudden I hear my name being called out and another teacher saying “who on earth is my full name Mrs Smith” and Mrs smith just said yes she is with us. Are trainees not allowed to be identified as such? Are teachers not allowed to say “it’s the school direct trainee” I did feel a bit upset I imagine it was a genuine error but I’m already suffering with anxiety and i just felt like I was back at school all of a sudden.

Any adviceConfused

I’d much prefer not to have it pointed out that I’m a trainee. When I was training in one school I had to wear a lanyard that said “trainee” and hated it. We just give our trainees “staff” lanyards. If I had a trainee, or observer or anyone else in my room and the kids or another member of staff asked about them I would just breezily say “That’s Ms X and she’ll be joining us today” or even “she’ll be joining our lessons for a while” but I wouldn’t identify someone as a trainee unless they chose to share that with the class themselves.
It sounds like there was a problem with communication at the school with one of the teachers on the call not aware that you would be joining and presumably worried that someone was on an online lesson who should not be. It’s honestly not a big deal and I really wouldn’t worry about it. With everything going on this week it looks like they’ve not communicated with all of the staff to expect you.

There's not a rule on this. I never used to say but older pupils have been round the block a few times, they know someone doesn't just appear for 6 weeks and then vanish, unless they are training!
Online lessons are awkward enough. I do think any staff teaching online should have known in advance that you would have been there. Don't feel awkward about what was said, it's nothing personal

There are no rules about it.
I am the professional mentor in school and my trainees have the same badges etc as the paid staff.
Students know they're trainees because they know that's one of my jobs.... I often get students coming to tell me about what trainees have been up (good and bad!)
