You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I don't have a Twinkl subscription but if you do, something like this? Or even maths rangoli...

Could you do something based on Andy Goldsworthy and his nature art? Get them to come up with some ideas and sketch them and then suggest as an extension they might like to recreate them for real and take pictures over the weekend.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 07/01/2021 22:17

Thanks guys your suggestions have got my creativity going again. Got an idea now Smile

MrsHamlet · 07/01/2021 22:17

Don't mention twinkl.... the lurkers will attack!

MrsH Or Becky will send me another friggin email!

CallmeAngelina · 07/01/2021 22:24

I think this is quite deliberate on the part of the DfE.
They didn't want to close schools and certainly not on teachers' behalf.
They were forced into having to officially close them (in name only) but have got round it by expanding the eligibility list to a ridiculous degree.

Fortunately, our Head is giving parents the third degree and deterring as many kids as she can from coming in.

My kids primary school have sent out numerous letters to almost begging them to keep their kids off it’d they can.
They’ve taken the numbers of the parents line managers, I presume to check parents hours.

noblegiraffe · 07/01/2021 22:37

Have you not seen the language being used? Gavin Williamson tweeted about schools being 'partially closed' and the DfE documents talk about limiting attendance.

If you want to partially closed schools and limit attendance, do it with rotas. FFS.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 07/01/2021 22:44

Fuck them. Bastards and corrupt bastards the lot of them.

Does anyone know what happened with the legal challenge? Did they come up with the data?

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 07/01/2021 22:54

He is dreamy!

Is there a thread anywhere with cancelled exams and alternatives discussed? I'd quite like to hear different perspectives on what people think/want to happen.

Tiptoed out of The Staffroom and this appeared in Active:

noblegiraffe · 07/01/2021 23:10

Is there anyone who isn't a fan of Mr P?

I've got an exams cancelled thread in Secondary www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/4125897-Exams-cancelled

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 07/01/2021 23:13

Thanks both. Interested to see how it will play out but need a wider perspective than "what I would do for maths".

JanuaryChill · 07/01/2021 23:21

But one of the reasons I don't think this is a conspiracy is that didn't they broaden the guidance for who could come into school in the summer ? Maybe not in published guidance but wasn't something said (probably in response to Anne Longfield or similar) about kids who didn't have tech being able to come into school? And obviously schools and everyone became more aware of which vulnerable children needed to be in.

And wan't there always some discussion over whether KW children had to have one or two keyworker parents?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/01/2021 23:30

In summer it was both at my child's school, just one now.

JanuaryChill · 07/01/2021 23:37

Coldest night of the winter, we're expecting snow here tonight, and my main heater appears to be broken.

Fab-u-loud

JanuaryChill · 07/01/2021 23:51

  • -lous, obviously.

Reading the thread from stressed nursery teacher being pressured by SLT / LA to send tasks out and ensure parents send evidence of learning back is quite hilarious really.....

Especially the story of the 10 month old eating the plastic bag Pom Pom mum has to make during first lockdown Grin

I find him a tiny bit egotistical. But he makes good points and often funny. Do not fancy him!

NeurotreeWenceslas · 08/01/2021 06:28

I'd have slept like a log if toddler didn't have a temp half the night.

At home today but obviously now booking a test, sorting out eldest's home learning (that may not happen) and need to do two things for school for home learning.

Feel like I've been hit by a bus.,

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 08/01/2021 06:56

Anyone seen the breakout at Aston Villa? Not sure exactly on their testing regimes but they are definitely tested twice a week. They're outside training too! Just shows how this "test instead of isolate" rule is a bit bonkers.

Piggywaspushed · 08/01/2021 07:01

There's been loads at football clubs recently. It's a concern, isn't it!
