You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

I think people reckon the kids in school are getting taught by a teacher. When they are not really - just getting the same as at home. My phase kids have got strong TAs with them, and a teacher on a couple of days, but not really - they are not planning specifically for those kids, we have to do that.

I'm struggling with differentiation from home. How do I teach an almost non-verbal autistic person who keeps mooing down the Teams meets? Aagh.

Can I have some advice from xp-pen users... how do I stop it doing this circly thing?

That's appalling re latest govt guidance! Especially given that -correct me if I'm wrong - the schools which are more crowded are in the deprived areas, probably more BAME etc.

The unions are going to have to get together AGAIN, aren't they? At least Heads' bodies (Grin!) are already speaking up.

My child has been a total PITA today. She's currently sitting on the windowsill refusing to go downstairs for tea, saying she'll be quiet... while not being quiet. She kept walking in during one of my lessons so I had to share my screen to stop her sticking her tongue out, then generally raaah.

namechangedyetagain · 07/01/2021 18:20

First day back to school today for me since Christmas break and by 12 I was completely shattered. New mentor told me to work from home tomorrow afternoon. I could have hugged her!

KathyHop · 07/01/2021 18:22

The current situation in primary schools is damn right ridiculous.

Our numbers are now up to over 50%..this isn’t lockdown.

We might aswell just open the whole of the school

My dudes have learned The River by Valerie Bloom and watching the videos just made me cry. What a fucked up situation.

PumpkinPie2016 · 07/01/2021 18:39

No technical glitches today but virtual 6th form parents eve was.....interesting. The system didn't work well so had to quickly set up teams meetings. Good job it's a small class!

I'm tired today! Teaching online is so much harder than teaching in person. Kids are being great but it's exhausting!

Weirdly, I am also finding it harder to do all the other jobs despite having the same number of free periods Hmm I have a better idea of how much I can get through in an online lesson now though!

Thanks Riga - I've just forwarded that and the BMJ one to the Head as she expressed interest in why I was concerned about giving consent for ds or myself and why I didn't trust LFT.

Mainstream media seems not to grasp this is being proposed INSTEAD of any isolation - all focused on the initial mass testing.

I'm afraid I'm dipping out a lot more because I'm finding it quite anxiety making on here this week. I can understand we're all venting but it's making it harder for me in recent days.

TheHoneyBadger · 07/01/2021 19:02

Plus I've just seen what has been going on in usa! I've been in such a bubble of school and covid.

JanuaryChill · 07/01/2021 19:06

Best wishes Honey

Piggywaspushed · 07/01/2021 19:07

Oooh, that is interesting. It feels like MN teachers are always ahead of the curve!

JanuaryChill · 07/01/2021 19:07

That's brilliant though that they've been forced to withdraw the letter, and that the concept of it being mandatory for schools has been called into question (although not very publicly).

Presumably schools who've already sent those letters out and had concern forms will have to send a new letter, and explain why too!

Is it when you click the buttons on the side of the pen? I haven't got a clue what they're for, but I try to hold my pen in such a way I don't touch them - maybe buttons facing up?

Sorry I can't be more helpful Blush.

RigaBalsam · 07/01/2021 19:20

Sorry I haven't seen that circle either.

RigaBalsam · 07/01/2021 19:22

Are people actually spamming OFSTED with good news stories as per the Facebook post. Good if it actually happened.

Crap toddler has a temperature. Exceptionally grumpy too.

Hope so! I shared it laughingly but when I went back on fb my post had been shared about 10 times by others so I would LOVE it if people did that 🤣
NeurotreeWenceslas · 07/01/2021 19:30

Missed comma:

Crap, toddler has a temp..

MrsHamlet · 07/01/2021 19:31

Thanks Brie and Riga - I love it but it's doing my head in!

Saucery · 07/01/2021 19:31

Is that the Fake Headteacher one? Very funny.

Appuskidu · 07/01/2021 19:36

That made me laugh. I was wondering if you had a crap toddler and a not-crap toddler Grin

Good to see that stupid letter withdrawn. I sat with DH for a while trying to work out the difference between the 2 things they were comparing - sensitivity and specificity - with the conviction that they were comparing apples with pears.

We did have that letter from our DCs secondary school and I was immediately v suspicious.

Bloody Boris tonight, I wanted to put him on the naughty step. SUCH a clown and not in any funny way (P.S. I hate clowns)
