Does anyone know if Special schools are closing in London in line with Primary schools?

No. Special schools have and will always remain open as far as I know. I'm not in london but another area where primaries have shut and we are still going. I don't think SEN will ever shut. And I'm in agreement with that to be fair.

OpheliasCrayon · 02/01/2021 09:25

And just to confirm I have just this second read on the bbc that early years, alternative provision and sen schools in London will remain open (quote wanky williamson)

So, if I read you right, the Govt is decaring that Special School staff are a different subset one that is presumably immune to the virus? If not then we are expected to fall on our proverbial swords? How to I explain that to my family- my children to whom I return to every evening- carrying the virus with me!

Unison are advising all staff including special school staff to refuse. Our class sizes are very small though. But obviously you still can't distance.

It feels different for special schools

How do our learners access online education?(they don't)
Also we provide so many therapeutic services

We have had zero closures of bubbles so far and PPE is available

I want to support the union but this doesn't feel right

Shadeelane · 03/01/2021 10:15

We've had several bubbles go down but not a huge amount of cases or spread within the school. I can't say it feels any less safe than last term.

I think I'd be defining "open." In the summer we were told to open to as many as we could, however we could. Of course many pupils were vulnerable and parents didn't feel able to send them in.

We worked out bubbles rotas and part time set ups, full time for those KW and vulnerable. It's a bit short notice to do that now but I could see that being a possibility, if it suits the cohorts and the area etc.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 03/01/2021 13:22

And yes it does feel different for us.

Hello how are all your schools doing?

Yet to find out what the day will look like but it seems a number of children will be being kept off. No idea how we will work the home schooling.
