You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@phlebasconsidered Ooh - I am envious of your TV binge - I do love Lord Peter (as you might have guessed! Xmas Wink) - although I prefer the books to the TV adaptations.

Fuming over parliament delaying their return. Hypocritical bastards.

Oh, and I had my test results back - ‘inconclusive.’ Angry Fml.

It's really frightening that hospitals are running out of oxygen. My DM was not an anxious woman at all, but when she was dying of cancer her lungs were constantly filling up with fluid and she felt like she was drowning. She was very dependent on oxygen and panicked even when transferring between one cylinder and the next.

HarrietDVane · 28/12/2020 18:47

Oh, @SaltyAF - that’s awful Flowers

SaltyAF · 28/12/2020 18:52

Sorry, it's a bit much. I'm just glad we're not losing her now.

Saucery · 28/12/2020 19:00

No need to apologise, Salty , it's damn frightening to contemplate what the demand for oxygen means for so many people.

HarrietDVane · 28/12/2020 19:05

Absolutely no need to apologise. It’s easy to lose sight of the human cost among all the data and glib headlines. We (as a nation) need to understand the reality.

eitak22 · 28/12/2020 19:06

@SaltyAF sorry to hear about your mums experience. I cant believe hospitals are running out of oxygen.

Also cant believe that MPs get to return later when Primary arent even being offered that as an option. Weve got soap and hand sanitizer so guess were safe! Hmm

I've been for my first walk in a couple of weeks, only round the block to see the neighbourhood lights with the children and the dog, come home to see loads of FB posts saying how overrun our local hospital is and not to bother the NHS. At the same time still no update from DfE. A lifetime ago i used to work in central gov and dfe were always tardy then, but this is ridiculous!

Even though I can't taste it I've opened a bottle of pinot Wine. I have trainee worries but ultimately I'm not shouldering the burden like others. My hat is off to you all Flowers

noblegiraffe · 28/12/2020 19:40

Sorry about your mum, Salty, the reality of this is horrifying. Flowers

noblegiraffe · 28/12/2020 19:41

Saw this and thought of gender lessons...

I saw this at the end of that ad :

PPE and training will be provided by the school.”

Oh, OK, right then. We'll just crack on having no PPE ourselves and yet provide it to others.

RigaBalsam · 28/12/2020 19:59

So many schools threads. They all say the same thing. 😴

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/12/2020 20:00

Sorry about your mum, Salty.

And agree with Harriet about losing sight of the human cost. We seem to have spent quite a lot of 2020 othering people and deciding that their lives are expendable if it means we don’t have to adapt ours.

MrsHamlet · 28/12/2020 20:04

Fab, noble - thank you.
We once had a non binary member of staff who went by Mx. The HT is not known for his grasp of political correctness but was forced into it when the school Facebook page was filled with vile slurs about them and he had to deal with it.

RigaBalsam · 28/12/2020 20:08

Just announced on Sky that Gavin has been spotted in Downing Street. He waved.

DecemberStar · 28/12/2020 20:09

Wish I knew what to tell my DD about whether her mocks will start on 5th as planned.....

Do you think they are waiting for the front pages at 10 tonight or is that too hopeful?
noblegiraffe · 28/12/2020 20:35

Why do I get the impression that the meeting has been had and Gav wasn’t invited? He’s just been summoned to hear the outcome.

starrynight19 · 28/12/2020 20:36

Hope everyone had a good Christmas. We had a quiet one. My friend really struggling with losing her dad. Such a cruel time to lose someone never mind due to this virus as well.
Posted on a few threads but it’s a bit repetitive to say the least.
Our local high school has posted for volunteer testers on their social media today. Wonder when we will get an update. Holding out on doing any school stuff up to now.
Still stuffing my face and watching Christmas films. Watched Jack Frost and National Lampoons this morning. Better than the news or social media.
