Reading test results out to the class

Is there a reason why children have to do this?
Dd is in year 4, she’s really struggling with maths and today got 7/40 on a test. Along with the rest of her class she had to stand up and read out her results.
Every time they have to do this she’s totally humiliated, every time her confidence is knocked a bit more.
Before I speak to the school I was wondering if there is a genuine reason behind this?

Don't contact governors straight away, what an over reaction.

It might be a covid thing, if teachers need to know what score students get but don't want to get near. I'm sure there are awyas round this. Email/call the teacher and ask.

I do this with quizzes (not formal tests)- but in a more informal way e.g. stick your hand up if you got 5/10 etc. Or I do it question by question. It's a quick and easy way to see how well the class is understanding things.

With covid, if students have peer marked their assessments, I ask if they are willing to share their score with the class so I can get as many as possible from the front, but I will let any who are unsure tell me at the end of the lesson. They don't stand up though, and these are students in secondary school in sets, so usually results don't vary hugely.

Most of the classrooms I’ve worked in do this (TA). I’m not very keen on it either. I’m guessing teachers do it because it’s easy.

It is a really quick way to get the information compared to having to look in each child's book, find the work and then write it down. There should be a way for students who don't want to say to report their score privately however.

Not something I ever do as a Y4 teacher. Most primaries are operating as normal in terms of touching children's books etc at present, so doubt it is due to covid.

Covid times have changed some of the marking systems. It s easier to not pass books around, get the kids to mark the work and record the results with our anything moving around class.
