You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on.

@Mistressiggi

Aye piggy but back then you could chuck a board duster at the kid chatting at the back without needing to go down to them!
Did you also have the slide down green boards to write on which you'd move and find somebody had drawn a penis on the hidden section?
MrsHamlet · 03/09/2020 20:27

I have to observe NQTs. I have to do it from the doorway. One of them was told off today for something that wouldn't be acceptable in normal times. I despair.

We have buses and trains. Face masks on transport. SLT and HOYs on duty but that's normal.

I've not cried yet but that's mainly because I'm holding it together for everyone else.

minisoksmakehardwork · 03/09/2020 20:32

@Piggywaspushed - There Is No Pandemic?

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2020 20:35

Star for mini!

minisoksmakehardwork · 03/09/2020 20:36

Maybe they were in the staff room and grumbling that There Is No Panettone!

CallmeAngelina · 03/09/2020 20:36

I just don't WANT to teach like this! Bloody rows and no moving around and no group work or singing or fun contact PE games. It was a kid's birthday today and we got halfway through singing Happy Birthday to her before I remembered that we're not supposed to sing, ffs!

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2020 20:36

Yes betts I did. I also had terrible allergies which disappeared once the chalk did!

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/09/2020 20:46

@Keepdistance

My dc is also sharing stuff crayons and scissors. But said not told to wash hands after which is quite blergh. I sent in pencil case hoping to avoid sharing etc.

I've spent a lot of time working out what to do with things like art resources (Sen)

I've created bubble/ class packs (obviously groups are around 6-11 in number) but they do have to share crayons etc, with hand washing before and after. And quarantining if it is shared with another class. I see pencils as a worse issue as they do chew them!

It's just not possible to completely separate. They're physically playing with each other, sharing toys and other equipment. We have had such a problem with how they all board transport/ taxis (it's taken over half an hour) that children were extremely distressed and needing cuddles etc.

We are all constantly hand sanitising and washing, as are they.

I've developed a type of ocd where I'm noticing who has touched what Blush

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/09/2020 20:48

callme it's shit isn't it? I think it's recognised that we can't but I am hanging back more than usual; I suppose only physically intervening if I have to.

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2020 20:54

My new hobby is reporting any post which suggest people observing SD and other covid rules are paranoid or gullible.

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2020 20:55

The 1 in 1 out in the toilets caused a massive queue today! It is not workable.

CallmeAngelina · 03/09/2020 20:59

It was 20 minutes after the end of break that we actually got on with some work this morning. Same after lunch.
So much curriculum time will be missed, but I suppose not as much as them not being in school at all!

cheesecurdsandgravy · 03/09/2020 21:04

@CallmeAngelina one day at a time, we are here for you. I hope the wine and fajitas did the trick :)

We are a bus school. SLT are doing bus duty (as usual). There are seating plans! Masks required on the public bus. Optional (but strongly recommended) on the private transports. Interestingly in my home town today the buses were empty - but the cars for high school drop offs were unreal. This hasn’t happened at my school - but it’s very rural so probably harder for parents to do and still get to work.

MrsHamlet · 03/09/2020 21:09

We had a complaint today that our kids were using the pavement outside the primary school. Their alternative is the road....

You’re kidding?! I have no words!
MrsHamlet · 03/09/2020 21:13

I wish I was! That was with one year group. The other 6 arrive on Monday 🤣

Frlrlrubert · 03/09/2020 21:14

We've had an email from SLT stating that pupils will only be removed from lessons if absolutely necessary.

So the behaviour system is now:
Verbal warning.
Written warning.
Erm, I can't make you stay back but I'm recording that I told you again.
Erm, I can't give you detention but I'm recording that I told you again, I'm going to contact your parent/guardian.
Request removal from lesson (possibly denied).

Wtaf?

SaltyAndFresh · 03/09/2020 21:15

They still have these in our local secondary. Went there with DD for an open evening last year - not much has changed since I was there. You never see cock and balls graffiti in schools any more - I'm not sure if that isn't a bit sad Grin

phlebasconsidered · 03/09/2020 21:18

My entire SLT is in denial. No masks, no one way system, ALL staff in one room for the inset, marking as normal, still expected to work alongside students and circulate, each class has ONE single toilet. And we are not to waste time with them handwashing - just squirt them with hand gel on entry. We have to "own" the risk apparently. And the head think that even if 3 kids are ill in a class we can still stay open. We are not to think a cold is covid and the head says snot is not a sympton, even though it is.

Fuck this. I am taking my temperature every morning and the second it is above average i'm off.

MrsHamlet · 03/09/2020 21:19

Actually, salty, I have a large cock and balls on the wall in my classroom. When the site team emailed me last summer to ask where to put my new cabinet, my reply was "in front of the improbable cock, please". They agreed it was improbable. It's still there because they paint round things!!

I can't imagine having to faff about with a written warning. So far so good, haven't needed to use SLT but it will happen. I'll be interested to see the outcome ...
Frlrlrubert · 03/09/2020 21:23

Written warning just means I put it on sims, so they get negative points and it's recorded. Two in a week = on report (but not at the end of the day so no biggie)

HipTightOnions · 03/09/2020 21:24

You should come to my place!

Frlrlrubert · 03/09/2020 21:25

I have a fair few cocks and balls drawn on my lab stools actually. Occasionally a sensitive year 7 will make a fuss about sitting on them 😂
