NEU petition for those concerned about reopening too soon

Link to petition along with letter from the NEU to the government - the press are really pushing schools reopening and myself and a lot of my colleagues are concerned about the safety implications, not to mention the logistical and planning implications of partial opening etc!

Not staff but signed as concerned for pupils and teachers. I hope as a minimum it's not compulsory.

The DfE are unlikely to want to reopen too soon, but signed anyway.

I'm not teaching in the UK but watch with interest as there is considerable pressure, fuelled by the media, to re-open schools in Australia. It's entirely economically driven with not one iota of attention given to, for instance, social distancing.

I don't get how they don't get that just because children don't appear "ill", they're not carrying it. They seem to "get it" about adults.

When would you like them to reopen?

I don't know - I always assumed after half term assuming everything's calmed down by then but like everyone else, have no idea! Just seems to soon at the moment with things how they are

Coronavirus isn't going to calm down till there's a vaccine and however long it's going to take after that to vaccinate billions of people.
