Are you 'at higher risk' (not shielding)? Are you going in to school?

I'm torn between feeling guilty about not being on the rota for our hub school, and grateful that the ht has taken my concern about being in the at risk group seriously. It took a lot of deliberating before I asked to be allowed to work from home (when school closed to the majority of pupils - I'd been going in after the advice was given but while the school was completely open). I'm asthmatic and it's not mild, but not severe either. I narrowly, luckily, have avoided being sent the shielding letter. But after having lots of sets of steroids at Christmas and looking at the inhalers and tablets I have to take to control my asthma, I plucked up the guts to ask to be able to wfh.

Still feel guilty though.
Is anyone else here being allowed to work from home or are you still going into school, as several of our (mild) asthmatics have still chosen to do?

I wouldn't feel guilty about it, as you're still working, but from home. My husband is asthmatic (not severe) and has been told to wfh, as there are plenty of other staff who can be on the rota. In fact, in some schools I know, the rota is made up entirely of staff who have volunteered, with everyone else wfh.

Feeling guilty about something is so typical of being a teacher. Please give yourself permission to put yourself first for a change.

I'm asthmatic and am working from home too. It's just not worth the risk. I do feel guilty, however I couldn't handle my son having to go to school and me having to go to work, putting us both at risk.

I'm not a teacher but in the same asthma group as you. I've been working from home for a while but I'm a bit concerned about when things are back to normal but there's a second peak due as I normally work on a huge, busy site and germs spread like wildfire, especially as adults are worse affected.

Following with interest. I don’t want to go back in until at least September!
