Teacher in France, so we've already been off for two weeks. We're all waiting with bated breath for news about the end of year exams, which for the moment are still on. Rumours are of course running wild in the mean time.

We're trying to muddle through the best we can, but I'm already getting increasingly concerned about how this is going to affect students in the long term. Some have very implicated parents and easy access to technology, whilst some have 4 siblings, one computer and I can already see they are struggling even though we have been very careful about the amount of work given. Some don't have any support at home at all.

I fear for how this will widen the gap in the long term, especially because setting is very rarely done in France, we're expected to differentiate in our own classes. I can imagine some will behind and be permanently left behind...

HCW children who have been solely baby sat dawn til dusk at a hub that’s not their own school looked after by people they don’t know while worrying about their (quite frankly shit scared) parents and done the square root of fuck all school work for a term and a half will be grossly disadvantaged. And they might have lost a parent or two by the time this is all over.

Teach my kids actual content while I save folks’ lives would be light years better than all the clapping in the world.

Yeah, it's going to be an uphill climb for next year's year 13. There's a big baccalaureate reform happing this year in France. It's been an organisational disaster... and now this has come along. So the students in year 12 have only done a third of the assessment they are meant to. They also sit the French portion of their bac in year 12, which is looking less and less likely.

I'm thanking my lucky stars I asked for a reduction in hours for next year... and praying that it still comes through !
