There's a global pandemic and yet, I'm so much less stressed because I'm not at school

This is a wake up call for me.

My skin has cleared up, I've slept for a full every night since Saturday and I genuinely feel like a burden has lifted off my shoulders.

WTF.

I am enjoying google classroom. Nice to be able to mark on a trickle as it comes in and engage in some genuine discussion about some of the quieter kids' understanding.

What is relay nice is not to have to squeeze marking into one free period, not to have any behaviour issues , any diktats form above and not to have to enter any sodding marks, using exam mark schemes on a sodding databank.

I have been teaching a long time and, technology aside, the ability to set what I want and mark how and when I want is lovely.

I have heard of some schools really browbeating staff, though.

I do worry that this is not proper teaching and they will be very disadvantaged if in year 10 or 12.

I'm not in education but surely lots of people not at work will be realizing how much better they feel🤷‍♀️ Lots of professions are very stressful.

I'm a nurse, it's very stressful without a pandemic and even more stressful during one! I'd love to leave nursing but I am paid a decent wage which I would not be willing to give up and I do not have the energy or motivation to retrained my age.

Do you remember the thread a while back where teachers were kind of wishing they could have some kind of minor accident that would enable them to stay home from school?
And here we are!

Although when I'm there I love it. I just hadn't realised how stressed I am when I'm there because I've never just 'stopped' before.

Yes, this.

I miss the children dreadfully, but it is so lovely to 'chat' to the ones who are submitting work without someone else being an arsehole in the background.
