(Supposed to be) Starting a new role at Easter

As the title suggests, I am changing schools at Easter. I am currently on maternity leave but not returning to my old school.

I have signed and returned contracts confirming my start date and provided bank details, so I am not too worried about getting paid in the event that school isn't open on the 20th April. However, there is a possibility that in the uncertainty there could be some kind of delay in the administration and I'm wondering whether to contact the new school and say something which is a more polite version of, "Hi, happy to do anything to help with virtual learning, don't forget I need to be paid!"

Is anyone else in a similar position? Starting a new school mid-year is awkward enough without all of this uncertainty. As well as pay, I haven't yet been given a clear overview of my role and responsibilities, and I will also be doing a fair amount of teaching (the role is SLT) but haven't had a timetable through - in other circumstances this would be fine but as a new member of staff I can't picture how it's going to work.

To avoid a drip-feed - it's a multi-academy trust with a HR department.

I think your email sounds fine, make it clear that you’re happy to muck in. Who knows, if might be a great way to build bridges with colleagues before you start “properly”. Good luck.

I'm in the same position, but due to start 1st May. I haven't been asked for bank details yet, so a little concerned, I'll email later this week.
It's such a difficult time, I don't want to add to the burden, but also do want to be paid!
I think your email sounds fine.

Hey! Same here moving roles and had a little anxious moment today...my new school HR team contacted me to say though to ask I fill a special form in to avoid emergency tax so they are planning for me. They said to prevent it as they anticipate my P45 would be delayed now. Maybe check if they want you to do that? I replied saying just tell me what if anything you want to direct me to do from 20/04. It feels all very strange.

Both DH and I are in the same position. I’m going to ask HR at school tomorrow!

Good luck to everyone in the same position. Have had reassurances today so feeling better, especially as I've now (probably) lost all my tutoring income!

We've got 4 new starters after Easter. Yesterday I emailed them to let them know they are still 'starting' despite closures.
