This half term is bloody tough.Dark nights, constant bloody illness and appalling supply teachers (cover manager here), everyone snappy and knackered. At this point I don’t care if the weather is crap this weekend, I’m hunkering down tonight with my Christmas gin, my little dog and some seriously lightweight Netflix.
Come, vent, my pretties.

Agree with most of that, but please don’t dis all us supply teachers. Many of us do a Good job, getting through tough days, for below scale pay.
Happy half term!

On the bright side, we’re over halfway through the school year! Something like 24 weeks done, 22 to go Grin

Mistressiggi · 14/02/2020 19:11

Mine is just finishing Sad

Mistressiggi · 14/02/2020 19:12

On bright side, I've only 18 working weeks till the summer Wink

absopugginglutely · 14/02/2020 19:15

I’m annoyed because on the last day of last term I got I’ll with a cold and now on the last day of this term I’m ill with a cold!

itsgettingweird · 14/02/2020 19:22

This is definitely the longest half term (despite it actually being one of the shortest Grin).

I think because it includes January which goes on FOREVER!

I've had a cold but battled through. Annoying really when other staff have had flu Hmm colds so have had odd 1/2/3 days off and so I e been picking up the strain too.

AllPointsNorth · 14/02/2020 19:24

I’m an appalled supply teacher, the last school I went to had no facilities for a hot drink for visitors. I asked and was told no.
At lunchtime, all the staff took their own bits out of lockers, and not one offered me a teabag!
Still marked all the bloody work though.
Happy half term!

PennyGold · 14/02/2020 19:25

I ran out of the school gates today, and now drinking a good bottle of wine!

BecauseReasons · 14/02/2020 19:26

You have supply teachers?? We get covered by TAs (and then have to mark the work once we're back). Consider yourselves lucky!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 14/02/2020 20:10

Oh we had two years leading up to ofsted, when I was forbidden to get supply. (Two tas and me, so they couldn’t do supply. I was doing 5 lessons a day as well as two other roles in school.)
This year the head is throwing money at supply.
I didn’t mean to offend any supply, just some of the ones we’ve had...without giving too much away, major safeguarding issue this week.

My last half term before I leave teaching Grin

It's been a long time coming.

MimsyBorogroves · 14/02/2020 20:14

Glad to be at the end of that half term. Phew.

Rosieposy4 · 14/02/2020 20:16

So happy it’s half term, may possibly be on the wine 😀😀😀

PumpkinPie2016 · 14/02/2020 21:13

It has definitely been an incredibly long half term! At least it's getting lighter though.

I was ill with an awful cold last week so was off for two days and I feel like this week has just been playing catch up. Also had a parents evening this week plus various other things on top of the usual stuff.

On the plus side, I finished today and I am now sat in my favourite holiday cottage in the Lake district with DH and DS (though DS is in bed now). I have a gin and tonic and fire going - bliss!

I intend to relax this week and recuperate ready for the final onslaught for exams next half term!

BigcatLittlecat · 15/02/2020 11:53

I've woken up with a sore throat and no voice! Hurrah!
It was the longest term ever! Feel a little bit crazy but have brought no work home with me! All I have is my notebook and I doubt I will open that! Have to have a proper break!
Have a fab half term!

Corneliawildthing · 15/02/2020 13:27

All right for some - all we get is a piddly long weekend which was ruined by storm Ciara Angry

Wakemeuuuup · 15/02/2020 14:10

I'd just like to say a massive thank you to all of the teachers who are giving up their half term to take pupils on trips. Amazing commitment when you're all so exhausted

happycamper11 · 15/02/2020 14:37

We're very short staffed for PSA's (what we call TA's) so it's been a stressful term dealing with the behaviour, keeping the kids safe and distraction down so the teachers can actually teach. There's 6 that need 1:1 plus meant to be 2 general classroom assistants but only currently 3 of us - 1 has been off twice after being injured by a pupil since January. We were off last week so back to it on Monday!
