Got an interview coming up. Just wondering if anyone has any idea of some questions they may ask? I'm thinking safeguarding etc will definitely be on there.

Much will depend on your potential responsibilities. Will you have to help plan form time activities? Academic tracking? You'll definitely get a safeguarding question and possibly something about dealing with difficult parents. I had to talk about how I would motivate disengaged boys as well.

Our assistant heads of year focus on attendance. Maybe have some ideas on where you are compared to national and if needed what could you do to improve.

What are the school priorities and Ofsted development points.
Mental health and supporting staff is high on training needs at the mo.
What area do you think needs development and why.

How do you ensure the ethos of the school is shared with all stakeholders?

Who do you think is most important, teachers or children?

You have assistant year heads? That sounds like an impossible dream!

I used to be one. It really depends on what the role is expected to include. Is there just one vacancy? My last school would try to match deputies with less established heads of year. I got the one who was regularly away for long periods so I actually half ran the year group. They wanted someone who could tell when to pass am issue up to senior Management and be fairly autonomous. I also planned all the form time curriculum and sometimes stepped in for form tutors of they were absent or needed help. And I dealt with many of the naughty kids.
