Hi everyone, doing a bit of cover supply with a Year 10 group, and was wondering if anybody had some good recommendations for poems that they’ve done for unseen poetry?

My advice would be to use whichever cluster they are not studying (if you're with AQA) as you then know that the poems are of a similar difficulty/richness of content. I also like Pig Song by Margaret Atwood, Island Man and Blessing by Grace Nichols

Borrow from exam papers from other exam boards.

The Early Purges by Heaney is a good one to start looking at poetry. Shocking opening line, interesting message, lots of techniques.

As above and: nettles, poison tree, havisham, in Mrs Tilscher's class, the one by Heaney where his little brother dies, island man, morning song, red roses, blackberrying
