TES is pretty bad these days isn't it?

Or is it just me?

I last used it for anything other than jobs some time late 2011 and ventured back in recently.

I don't like It now either. Too many resources that you have to pay for and sometimes the previews aren't clear so you don't know what your buying.

Not keen on the forums either. Tend to come on here more.

BringOnTheScience · 11/05/2019 17:36

Allowing for the charging for resources was the beginning of the end. So many are directly ripped off from free resources, which pissed off lots of contributors. I've seen my own stuff copied but with mistakes. So people left in droves.

noblegiraffe · 12/05/2019 14:30

I keep seeing about charging for resources but I use loads and very rarely get suggested anything that costs. Not sure if that’s because I use google not TES search to find them, or if maths is just lucky to have loads of free stuff.

Dermymc · 12/05/2019 15:55

I agree with noble re not finding much pay for stuff. Interestingly I was looking for some SATS based stuff for something and the only stuff I could find you had to pay for. I refused... Not used to it and why would you pay before you can see a full resource.

Lots of complaints on twitter about people charging for other people's resources which isn't great.

The forums are horrendous too.

QueenofCBA · 12/05/2019 16:01

Any new spec resources for my subject are paid for and as you can’t preview I am not buying. Forums are clunky and boring.
I am in a few Facebook groups where people share good quality resources and ideas freely.

teachingiswank · 12/05/2019 16:20

The forums are awful.

Whenever anyone says that AIBU is harsh, I always think back fondly to TES Opinion. AIBU is full of pussycats in comparison.

Cynderella · 12/05/2019 20:11

The TES forums used to be busy and lively. Then they changed the whole site including the forums. Nobody liked it. There were long threads of people complaining, but they wouldn't change it back. They made minor alterations but nothing more and they boards have never recovered.

There are so many free resources out there now that there's no need for TES. And jobs - that'll go next. There are other places for schools to advertise online either free or cheaper. Once someone gets behind that and makes it the go to place, TES will die.

I can remember waiting for Friday lunchtime when one copy would appear in the staffroom and we'd all be queuing up to read the job ads.

noblegiraffe · 12/05/2019 20:17

The government has launched a free job ad website in direct competition with TES to cut school recruitment costs.

They just haven’t advertised it very well.

HopeClearwater · 13/05/2019 18:48

Yes, it’s rubbish now. They ruined the forums and the articles are poorly-written filler of no consequence at all.

reefedsail · 13/05/2019 19:06

I think the forums were scuppered on purpose because teachers were so outspoken on them.

It's a shame, they used to be great.

MyBeloved · 13/05/2019 19:11

As per PP, Opinion used to be HARSH! Ah, miss the halcyon days of TES forums , but, alas, nothing stays the same.

PantsyMcPantsface · 14/05/2019 19:14

Primary got killed by the "me toos" asking after a resource someone had discussed and shared around 8 years previously. That and the annual sighting of "has anyone got I'll take you to Mrs Cole"

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/05/2019 19:21

I do miss the annual sighting of Mrs Cole. At one point it was selling for an absolutely ridiculous price on Amazon.

AnduinsGirl · 14/05/2019 19:46

I used to absolutely love the forums and began posting 11 years ago as a student teacher. I never post on there now, it's dull as ditchwater although I do enjoy seeing some familiar names on there on the odd occasion I get on. I went to one of the forum meet-ups in Birmingham back them as well - was quite nice!
