NQT looming... need a handhold

Finishing my final placement... on the lookout for jobs... it has just hit me how real it is now and how very unprepared I feel. I love teaching and it’s not a question of not wanting to do it.. I guess I just feel a bit overwhelmed and not sure how to carry on and secure myself a job.

Any pearls of wisdom and gins are welcome..

Keep a paper/ electronic copy of everything.

Ask for help, there are no silly questions and it’s better to ask rather than guess

You are a qualified teacher- you know your stuff.

Ask people to proof read any email correspondence to parents/ SLT/ other stakeholders

Observe as many teachers as possible using your NQT time!

Good luck OP!

Is there an NQT pool in your area? I qualificatied last year. Joining the pool was one of the best things I've ever done. You have a short 30 minute interview with three heads, and if they like the cut of your gib your details are registered. Any heads in your area can access your details and if they have a vacancy they can contact you. About six schools asked me to apply for roles in one month alone. I definitely recommend looking into that, although unfortunately it might be too late in the year. Good luck op. If I think of anything else Ill get back to you.

Qualificatied! Auto correct! That is real word? Who knew?!

Oh sorry OP, I thought you meant tips when you have a job!

I applied for everything which was fine at the time because I had no children back then so could go wherever the wind took me.

I am an NQT at the moment. I think my best piece of advice is that you don't have to be best friends with your TA (if you have one) - keep it professional.
