Had anyone made the leap from HOD to SLT?

I am considering applying for an SLT role in my current school. I am HOD of a large, high profile and v accountable and pressurised department and have been for 4 years. Has anyone made a similar leap? If so how did you find it in terms of challenges and reward? It would only be about another 3k in salary and would put me into a higher tax bracket I believe....

Loads of SLT got there via this route. It's the classic route. Go for it! I love it on SLT. I think HOD of a core subject was loads more tiring and draining.

Depends on your school. My school require SMT to come in one day in every half term week, do 8 days in August. Attend every evening event, sometimes two a week until 8-9pm. Break duty, bus duty, lunch duty, and still teach 30 hours with exam classes.

All the extra stress of safeguarding, meetings, accountability, observations, parental meetings, complaints etc.

Worse thing I ever did. Now I'm too expensive to go anywhere else.

@MrsTumbletap Teach 30 hours per week? Surely not even classroom teachers with no TLRs teach that much let alone leadership?

30 a fortnight.
