Attraction in the staffroom

Due to the intensity of the job and time spent together, is this common between staff members ?

Not in my book as I rarely make it to the staffroom.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 04/03/2019 22:31

2 of our staff met through work and are now married with kids. It's not for me but they seem to be happy.

C0untDucku1a · 04/03/2019 22:32

I often wondered how people who have affairs at work in a school find the time.

PurpleDaisies · 04/03/2019 22:33

Mostly women in my staff room.

Choccywoccyhooha · 04/03/2019 22:36

Every school I've worked in has been a hotbed of sex. (Not actually IN the staffroom though Shock).
So much shagging.

Littlepeoplehere · 04/03/2019 22:43

I can see why! I wondered if it was just me that thought it might be a thing . Hours together all day, meals together, emotional highs and lows together , support given and received in spades .depending on the school I guess.

Time spent together? I spend the vast majority of my time with my classes, rarely see my colleagues and it’s usually in meetings.

EvilTwins · 04/03/2019 22:47

I don’t work in a school any more but when I did, I could go from one end of the day to the next without seeing another adult for long enough to say hello, let alone to start an affair.

That said, two colleagues did get together and marry, but that was down to lift sharing when they went on a course that happened over a period of time.

cricketballs3 · 05/03/2019 06:11

Not in every school I've worked in apart from one which at one point had 3 married couples and a lot of affairs going on

SagelyNodding · 05/03/2019 06:20

In my last school, yes! Some very indiscreet affairs going on... Current school? As far as I can tell everyone is too professional!

abcriskringle · 05/03/2019 06:22

I worked at a (very odd) school once where basically everyone was sleeping with everyone else - it was an independent school and essentially over-staffed so unlike the usual experience of teaching, there were a large number of frees in which to socialise. However, in a standard comprehensive- no. I hardly have time to go to the loo let alone anything else.

Jackshouse · 05/03/2019 06:26

Only SLT. Maybe they have more time on their hands.

This really isn’t the case in my experience!

In every school I’ve worked in, I’ve spent hours alone-well, aside from the children, obviously, but you are in the classroom and can see no other adults for hours! Classroom teaching can be quite an isolated job really. People rarely go in the staff room either since the lunchbreak has been shortened. In fact, the school up the road has removed the staff room altogether!

shitpark · 09/03/2019 02:34

I've seen male teachers flirting with parents, sometimes just staring at them.

WooWooCocktail · 09/03/2019 02:36

Yes. Lots of couples. Lots of FWB. Lots of shagging.

FoldyRoll · 09/03/2019 02:54

My DB is married to his head of department. I've not asked about any other carry on because.... DB. Envy

junebirthdaygirl · 09/03/2019 06:54

Good friend married a guy off staff. He moved to another school.
In dcs school there was a spate of instaff weddings. A lot of young staff started together so l suppose it was inevitable some would hit it off.
Most schools l have been in have been mainly women with a scattering of men so so affairs.

Cismyfatarse1 · 10/03/2019 14:22

I am massively attracted to someone in our staff room. But, we have been married for 20 years and I worked at the school long before he got a job there.

PaleBlueChiffon · 10/03/2019 15:03

There's one bloke in the nearest ten primary schools under 40. All the young ones are/were delira about him.

We did a local training session and all of us oldies were so disappointed when this fairly ordinary fella walked in!

thebookeatinggirl · 11/03/2019 06:51

It definitely happens.

I know a school where there are 3 married couples, all six originally teaching there, and I taught at a school where the Head had an affair with the Y6 teacher, while both married to someone else. They ended up together, both divorced and still are together 10 years later, but it cost the Head his job, or at least he had to resign.

I think it depends on the school. The first Primary, 2 form entry, always had lots of male teachers, over many years. Not sure how/why, it just did. And lots of Primary schools are very friendly, intense places with people popping in and out of classrooms and working closely together.
