One of the best TES articles

MsJaneAusten · 26/02/2019 21:29

We don't have any Barries left. I miss Barry.

FourCandelabras · 26/02/2019 21:36

Actually have tears in my eyes. Haven’t worked with a Barry for years...

likeafishneedsabike · 26/02/2019 22:10

Barry is a seriously endangered species at this point.

Chosennone · 26/02/2019 22:25

#belikebarry

A dying breed but so much I can identify with

AlexaShutUp · 26/02/2019 22:35

I'm not even a teacher, but that article made me cry. I was taught by a Barry.

BackforGood · 26/02/2019 22:54

Sadly, Barry is becoming an endangered species.
Schools need more Barrys.

BackforGood · 26/02/2019 22:55

When I started teaching, I learned FAR more about teaching from my own 'Barry' of the time, than from all my time at college doing my B.Ed. She was a star. Remember her very fondly.

jocktamsonsbairn · 26/02/2019 23:29

I love our Barry, sadly she is retiring. We need the Barry's of this world!

BartonHollow · 26/02/2019 23:35

Not a teacher but I was taught by a Barry, best teacher I ever had.

Mumsymumphy · 27/02/2019 00:07

I am now the oldest teacher in my school (I'm only 44!)
I have some Barry Traits. They are acquired through time and experience, but also by being of an age when you are no longer prepared to put up with the BS filtered down from the government to heads to SLT.
I will never retire. But only because I will die before I get to the age of retirement.
I hope my pupils all remember me 'being Barry'.

AppleKatie · 27/02/2019 00:19

I used to work in a school full of barrys.

Over the last ten years I’ve seen most of them shuffle off.

There aren’t many left now.

I might be becoming Barry.

albertcamus · 27/02/2019 18:10

I worked in a tough school where the long-serving Deputy Head was a complete Barry. His English lessons were 10 outstanding, he knew exactly what was going on in the school, but used that info. carefully. One day, when word flew around the building that to excluded boys had come into school with knives, he located and disarmed them while all the young SLT shts looked the other way. He'd just returned from abdominal surgery and he did that for all of us. He retired when the jackbooted academy brigade bulldozed in. What a loss.

albertcamus · 27/02/2019 18:11

two, not to

samlovesdilys · 27/02/2019 21:30

That has made me cry...I too miss Barry as he was moved on by last head (shortly before we moved HER on)...

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 27/02/2019 23:09

I'm a bit Barry

Rosieposy4 · 01/03/2019 20:43

Our department Barry retired ( with some pressure) at the end of the last school year. I miss him, and his wisdom.

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 06/03/2019 13:46

We need more Barry ‘s.
