DS was onsite in games yesterday. There was 1 teacher with 35 pupils. Is this about right?

Yes, that’s fine. The only class size regulations involve early years and key stage one. They should risk assess though if it’s a particularly large group, especially for PE.

A lot of secondary school classes are now limited by size of classroom more than anything else. 30+ is quite common in all subjects in KS3, so 35 in PE seems reasonable.

Did you have a particular concern?

I’ve taught 36 year 9s in a science class before - only Technology subjects have restrictions to 20 in a class at secondary

leccybill · 11/12/2018 20:34

Average of 32 here (secondary).

MaisyPops · 11/12/2018 22:38

It sounds large for a classroom subject but not unusually large for PE.

avoschmado · 12/12/2018 18:52

1:8 in my class of 16 with TA (but private ks1)

mnahmnah · 12/12/2018 20:30

My top sets are all 34-36

Dermymc · 12/12/2018 20:31

No limit at secondary.

monkeysox · 13/12/2018 08:09

I have 34 top set ks3

Here in Au, 26 is tops. After that the teacher gets reductions on covers.

Most groups after year 10 are 19-22, often less.
