Are teacher pay rise recommendations compulsary for local authority schools?

Hi everyone,

I’m a primary teacher on UPS2 on the pay scale and I was just looking for advice from anyone in the know. The government recommended a 2% pay increase this time for teachers on the upper scale but myself and my colleagues are all being paid on the previous year’s rate. I was under the impression that the government were finding at least 1% of this so assumed there would be a small rise if not the full amount.

Is anyone in the know about this?

It will depend on the pay policy your governors adopt - ours have agreed to add the increase to each pay point, however I think it only has to be to the lower and upper limits of mps/ups. At our school we won’t get the rise until after the pay committee meet (which is in the next couple of weeks), it’ll then be back dated to September.

Ahh ok, thanks, I was looking at the government document that I assumed was statutory that suggested the UPS should fall between two limits. Obviously mine would fall within the guidelines but my colleagues on UPS1 are currently not getting the minimum.

I’d ask someone at school, but hopefully you’ll all get the pay rise back dated at the end of November.

A lot of LAs have only just signed off on it. You should get it at the end of October or November and it will be back-dates to September.
