I can't even believe how rude the children at my school are.

Not all of them obviously, but so many Y7 and 8s are so appealing rude, dismissive and desperate to undermine. What the hell is going on?

My behaviour management had always been pretty good but I'm sick to death spending my time doing detentions with children, who seem to want to be unpleasant for virtually no reason. It's week 4 and I'm done.

*appallingly.

It's not you, it's them.
Detention is just a way of punishing the teacher for pupils' bad behaviour. Their parents should have to do the detentions. They'd soon realise that yes, you can teach your children how to be pleasant, courteous and co-operative.

They are testing boundaries. Set some boundaries.

I only do detentions on Friday after school. Always for an hour. I point this out when someone tries it on. They don't come back for more.

I'm well aware of what they're doing. My boundaries are very clear and I enforce our behaviour policy on every occasion that I need to. Doesn't mean I don't get pissed off about rudeness, even when it's dealt with.

I agree with you OP. Change school. Find one where the kids are pleasant. They do exist.

WilburIsSomePig · 26/09/2018 16:18

@Cauliflowersqueeze I know what you mean. This is my new school though, only been there since the start of term. My old school was so lovely and I miss it. The powers that be closed it. An 'outstanding' school - amazing staff and amazing pupils. Now they're building houses on the site. ☹️

Sorry OP, I've touched a nerve. Didn't mean to come across as challenging your disciplinary measures. Sometimes you have to accept that that is what teenagers are designed for. Maybe look for a different school where parents support the behaviour management. Teaching is not for everyone and it's no failure to be disillusioned with those who will not engage.

Pumpkinsarepurple · 28/09/2018 19:54

It's not just teenagers though, wait until you are a called a dirty smelly cunt, spat at and have things thrown at you by a primary school child, that's when your heart realises you can't do it anymore Sad

Even though I know it's not their fault, facing that everyday is wearing and finding solutions so that all of the children have the best chance is exhausting.
