Coming back to secondary in September after nearly 5 years out - what do I need to bone up on?

I'm going to be teaching English part time again. Lots of you were very helpful when I was interviewing and I need a bit more help!

I'm a bit worried about not knowing what people are talking about and being behind before I even start. So what have I missed that I can read up on before I start?

I've been teaching GCSE to adults for 3 years so I'm OK with the new spec thank goodness.

what people are talking about

Sodding Fortnite. Oh, you don’t mean the kids?

Has marking changed at all in adult ed? Massive changes to marking in the name of reducing workload in some schools recently. Triple marking is on its way out, whole class feedback is coming in. But it depends on the school so you need to look at the school marking policy (Ofsted say this must be followed no matter how ridiculous).

Terminal assessment, progress 8

Letters changing to numbers!

Thanks!

Pretty much left to our own devices in Adult Ed! So will need the marking policy.

Will look up Progress 8 assuming it's not a droid from Star Wars

You don’t know about Progress 8? Oh are you in for a treat. Buckets abound.

Highlights for English: English results for the new league tables are counted as double the best mark out of Lang and Lit so long as students have been entered for both. If students are only entered for Lang and get a 5, their score for English is 5. If they get a 5 in lang and a 1 in lit then their score is 10. So now loads more students are being entered for lit than previously.

Well that's some weird-ass logic.

I'm ignorant of anything post 2012. Though I'm aware that NC Levels have gone! And something to do with buckets.

WTF am I doing?
