Secondary second in English department interview tomorrow, advice welcomed!

So, I willy nilly applied for a job yesterday morning and by 3pm I had the 'great' news that I had been selected for interview TOMORROW. Talk about short notice! Anyway, i've been out of secondary for a good few years and could do with a gentle nudge (read shove) in the right direction. I need to produce a 30 minute lesson on persuasive technique, I have loads of ideas (i've taught this so often but it's always been over a scheme of work) but i'm drawing a blank on an activity that is snappy, interesting and shows progress that I can shoehorn into 30 mins. Does anyone have any bright ideas? I'd be fine if I had an hour but I just cant think at the minute. It's a year 8 class MEG 6-7. Please help :-) Thank you xx

Seriously, stop asking people to write your interview lesson. This is normally a great forum to share ideas not to effectively "cheat" at interview.

Excuse me, I deleted the last one as it was in the wrong place and the only comment on there was saying to move it to here so I’d thank you to keep your barbed comments to yourself! This post is no different to others on here asking for a little advice during a mind block. As it happens I’ve finished the plans now so no longer need help but thank you anyway for your kind words and helpful advice.

And I do hope none of you have ever ‘cheated’ by consulting the internet for a little help with plans, teachit, tes, twinkle, Hamilton trust etc...

I really would expect someone applying to be second in dept to have plenty of ideas up his/her sleeve, so the replies (on this thread and the previous one) seem reasonable to me.

It isn't a barbed comment though, is it? You just don't like the honest responses. And no, I wouldn't be asking people on mumsnet or subject groups for an entire interview lesson. Funny how the xxx tone of your message changed when no-one was willing to write the lesson for you...

I teach persuasive by starting with, verbally, getting them to try to get a £5 in a role play with a partner. Then breaking down what worked / didn't work. Then you can look at key words / phrases etc.

I didn't see the original thread but OP did say she ahs been out of secondary for a while so I think asking for help is fine. I've done it for presentation ideas, for example.

I think the fact that you applied speculatively for a job with little recent relevant experience and got asked for interview the same day is a marker of the overlooked recruitment crisis in secondary English teaching!
