Gifts - State Sector - do you have to declare them?

Hi all

Does anyone know if teachers have to declare gifts they get from parents at the end of a school year? My son has been very challenging and I would like to get his teacher something a bit extra (like vouchers) but won’t if it will cause problems...

Our LA's policy is that we must declare all gifts over £10. It wasn't brought up at all at Christmas time (and no-one to my knowledge declared anything), but then we got an email at Easter reminding us of the policy, although I don't think anyone received anything more than a cute easter egg type gift. I know that some class parents club together to get staff substantial gift cards, which I suppose could cause problems if the policy were strictly applied. It really depends how 'to the letter' SLT are (ours are bad), but I don't envisage anyone searching bags so I'm sure a nice gift would be very much appreciated.

I've taught in 4 LA and never had to declare gifts.
