Do I apply for job at my kids’ school?

Hate the school I’m in and cannot bear to stay another year. Will be handing in my notice by 31st may but really need to find something by then as otherwise I’ll panic 😁

I’ve been scouring for a job every day but part time roles are hard to come by. My eldest is starting at the local school in sept, sister to follow next year. A job has come up. I know ppl who work there and really like it, v supportive etc.

I’m really in two minds. It would be perfect childcare wise. Plus I’d get to see some Xmas plays/assemblies etc. But I don’t want to be on top of my kids. Main concerns are

Relationships with fellow parents will always be a tad guarded

Living and working in v close proximity

Having school friends over to play-I may not teach them but I’d still be a teacher at the school.

It’s 3 form entry. I wouldn’t consider it if smaller.

Can anyone help?! Do positives outweigh negatives?

My youngest came to the school I already taught at. I managed not to teach his year group by moving years.
Advantages - all the nice things like seeing whomever day in assembly, seeing plays etc. I liked teaching in my local school because it made me feel part of the community.
Disadvantages- always knowing when he was in trou ble. A hush falling in the staffroom when I walked in, which meant they had been discussing him.
I did keep parents of his friends at arms length unless I could trust them.
One of our local teachers insisted on having his daughter in his class, and it seemed to work for the m.

I have taught in my dcs schools. I have taught them . Absolutely no issue. We have teachers dcs at our school all the time. Just go for it. Your dc will never know any different and a happy dm is more important.

Several teachers there have had there chn at the school. As ever I’m ahead of myself, might not get an interview!

I think I’ll apply though, I was really impressed when I walked round from a parent perspective

It can be ok, or not.... Sometimes the staff don’t say anything in front of you because you’re a parent, and parents don’t trust you because you’re a teacher. Good luck.

My DDs joined the school I taught at. It was mostly fine. We were careful at the dinner table not to discuss with DH confidential stuff, and I didn’t quiz DDs too much about their friends.

One of my DDs was very clingy, so I moved her to another school.

I deliberately didn't apply for a job at the school where my daughter was. I didn't think it was fair on her. It was her "place", not mine. School should be a place where children are free to develop their own personality, without have their parent there.

I work in a school which has quite a few parent/teachers. Some manage it better than others. Some are an absolute pain in the arse!

There are issues around:
Confidentiality
Friendships (for both children and parents)
Favouritism
Hearing things you don't want to hear
Colleagues being worried about saying things in the staffroom

I just really woudn't do it if you have a choice.

I wouldn't work at my DS school because he's a nightmare around me. When I've been a parent volunteer, at school and Beavers, he clings to me like a limpet and is a different version of himself.

However I've no problem with it whatsoever and think it depends on the child!
