Can I apply for jobs when off sick?

Am contemplating going sick as I cannot bare to be in the school I'm in much longer. Too much background to give detail but am SLT and need to be out.

I've one application in at another school and another to complete and am seriously considering going supply in September if I don't get anything.

However it is affecting me so much that I am seriously considering going sick til the summer. But can I apply for other posts if I do and will my head tell the other heads I'm on LT sick?

I think you can apply, but you will have to give information about your sickness record and the school will mostly likely be asked in the reference request. I think there will be an issue if you wanted to attend an interview, I'd be getting advice from your union.

If it was me, I'd stay at work and apply for jobs until the summer. If that's not feasible then you do have to look after your health first so go off on the sick but make sure you get clear advice from your union.

Thank you. I think I'll speak to my union Tuesday, and see what they say. I could probably manage at work until the summer but I've other stuff at home - argumentative non revising 16 year old and twat XH which are compounding my problems of top of all the crap at work!

I thought schools could no longer request/supply information about absence?

Oh I didn't realise that - I came out of teaching in a school setting 2 years ago. I'd check that then, it might not affect anything in that case!
