Been teaching 25 years...mired to an Academy this term. Had to take today off as DD is unwell...school refusing..under CAMHS. I'm a single parent..have an hour commute and live rurally with no RL support. I just feel I can't cope with this stress much more. if I take time off would I get paid? Do I just walk away?

Have your pay and conditions changed when it moved to an academy?

Or have you moved schools?

Your GP could sign you off with stress which would enable you to claim sick leave. It's probably best to get signed off for a month, so school can get cover, and see how things go.
Don't walk away from your job, give yourself some time to think things through.

Have you thought about supply? It doesn't have the same security but it keeps your hand in whilst allowing you to take the day with no come back. I am a single parent and I have shifted tomsupply this term - worked everyday so far although I am in a shortage subjec t area which probably helps. Speak to some agencies, sign up to some job sites and see what comes through - I did this for 3 mo this before I decided resigning was an option.
